How unusual. You normally end up near the bottom :buggered:

Theft is still a crime in most countries, and usually viewed rather dimly. I'd click on every REPORT THIS THEIVING FUCKER button in sight in your position. A little information on how they obtained the details might also be of help to the authorities. It may be that the "recipient" is blameless, but I'd at least want to see them investigated.

Having different passwords for every site I go to FTW, even if I have to regularly get ones reset after forgetting them.

I was assuming that Paypal would have been the ones investigating it, but you could be right actually - Paypal might well just flag it to recipient and give them the opportunity to sort it out before getting involved. I shall investigate, because I'm confident this guy isn't a legitimate business.

I suspect that Paypal (being nameless and faceless) would probably take the position that this this is a civil matter between two individuals. Should it become a criminal matter, doubtless they would have to help out however they can.

I rarely use ebay, however, on the one occasion I did get scammed, they were very helpful and sorted it themselves.

I never use E-bay and never have. I only use Paypal to make donations to 5punk and for other occasional odd transactions. I'm fairly surprised that Paypal have no concern about their reputation though - it's not like I bought something that didn't arrive, I've been a target of fraud through their site. I'm genuinely thinking of closing my account, and the only thing that has stopped me so far are those donations.

Am I the only one finding it hard to keep a straight face with this thread?

pffffft!
You are clearly unaware that paypal's US half (which isnt regulated by any official financial body, unlike the UK version) have a reputation of thieving gits who at one point had an EULA that essentially read "we can close your account, permanently, at any time, just cos we feel like it. We'll keep all the money in it, too". Dont know if they are still like this, and thankfully us in blighty are immune to such shittiness thanks to the FSA, but the merkins dont have an equivilant. This is bad for them. Haha.

Hmmm. So, how am I going to sort my donations without them then, seeing as they're clearly fuckers?

There should be a withdraw button in your paypal account, should be free for £50 or more.

Usually takes a week or so though

I've started using Password Safe recently, keeping it on my keyring USB stick. That other one looks a bit shinier but they seem to do the same job.

These are by no means the perfect solution but it's better than a standard set of passwords for all sites or trying to remember alphanumeric ones. Just got to remember to keep my password database safe and backed-up.
