I've gone through the first 3 worlds and part way through the forth and I'm fairly sure it's covered everything you need to know. Now it's just a case of practice I guess

10:47 with no mistakes, but I was interrupted by having to put the boy in his high chair and them feed him fish fingers. That was pretty hard - I've probably seen harder ones, but not that big.

5:37 and 2 mistakes. You'll start picking up patterns soon, seeing a certain type of hex in a certain configuration and just blatting out the ones surrounding it.

From the outside this looks more Minesweeper with hexagons replacing squares, less Sudoku.
I never got Minesweeper - it always seemed like a guessing game - I'm guessing I'm wrong there.
Sudoku is supposed to be logical, but I always found myself guessing first then trying it out to see it it was right.
I'm not that great with numbers and am better at Codeword puzzles which are kind of the same - holding probabilities in your head and deducing what can only go where, but has your vocabulary knowledge as a side-skill. I'm better at werds.
I think Mr Johnson mentioned something about a pictorial version of Sudoku and someone else mentioned pictures of fruit. I think it might be numbers that are the problem for me, if the numbers 123456789 were replaced with say CUNTARSED I'd probably spot the solutions in seconds.

It's only really like Sudoku in that you need to use the information available to logically deduce the solution. Other than that it's basically a more complex version of Minesweeper, which you could also describe as Sudoku-like in a similar way. I don't think Hexcells would work without numbers, you need to know how many hexes are filled and in what configuration from the numerical clues. Sounds fucking dull really on paper (erm, on pixel), but I love it. Mind you, I love Minesweeper too.

It is less prone to guesstime than minesweeper. I dont think ive ever come across a puzzle in hexcells where you *needed* to guess. A lot of the time the way to work it out is far from obvious though.

I didn't have any significant problems getting perfect on the normal levels, apart from 6-5. That bastard must have taken me a dozen attempts, and it's massive, and it was the last few which got me every time. I think I just got lucky in the end, I never did really understand how I completed it.

Picked this up and played through to world 3 late last night and just tried my first daily puzzle at 6:32 with 17 mistakes.
Still getting my head around the -- numbers, i am sure it said they are hexes that aren't connected in a pattern which i assumed meant they aren't connected at all but a -3- hex seems like it can have atleast 2 hexes touching which caused a few of those mistakes for me so ill have to take that into account and look elsewhere on the board for further hints.
This game is awesome though.
