I do like a bit of bambi, but It's not particularly easy to get around here.FatherJack wrote:Treat meat is bambi, for me. Although I had some class bacon at the weekend - had brown sugary stuff all down the outside and was (quite literally) sweet. Keep meaning to swag me some Kobe or Wagyu though, I do like the beefs, but think I overdid it for a spell.
Nice high end beef is nice, but I dunno, kinda a waste for me I think because I'm so lazy about cooking it.

Kobe-style Wagyu apparently isn't as good as the actual Japanese stuff. A lot of places say it's Kobe but it's Kobe black bull bred with Aberdeen Angus cow for more meat per carcass, and they tend to feed them spent grain instead of beer and high quality grain like the Japanese do. The slow grow marbling effect does look good though.
The highest quality Wagyu (probably Mishima) looks quite salmon coloured, I've never tasted it but I would order some fresh kill pure-bred stuff from Japan if I had the large amounts of money needed to do so.
editz - Also bambi is damn tasty. Bloody filling too given how low it is in fat.
Bestest treat meat for me is probably duck or wood pigeon. Heavy rich sauces and far more portion than restaurants serve, all warm and bleeding.

Cookin are seeryus biznuss!
on the merge button, I keep forgetting that. Given it's due with shineh new shineh then I guess we can attempt to remember to do it then.
I think it's fine in general. Although I'm waiting on the new look before any serious shuffing occurs. Such as doing Lat's job and cleaning up entertainment a bit.
Yeah you heard me Lat, now stop being educated and bossed about by your missus and get playing games!

food stuff is a weird one, It's a strangely big part of 5punk, but also kinda homeless, some of it fits in entertainment, but not all of it.FatherJack wrote: Not really in the brief, but a lot of cookery chat falls within the TV domain. Mod-wise, Pete's probably more of a cun^H culinary person than the General mods.

I guess how much chef wank it involves tends to make it flicker between the categories.
General everday tasty is general. But a top notch all day in the kitchen effort is entertainment, mostly for the people who eat it as opposed to cook it mind.
Rabbit is good for a slow cook to break down the sinew. Excellent taste when cooked well. Cheap if you can go out and shoot your own. Regarded as pet, gypsy food and as the bumbling blinded myxy creatures by many it's been knocked for years. Best way to get nice rabbit is of course buy some, feed them well, get them fat then wring their necks.
Pheasant is rich, one of those ones where you look at the portions served up by Ramsay et al and think 'is that it' but it does fill you faster than it really should. Bloody tasty.
Venison isn't one for those who ask for everything over-cooked (to my mind anything more than medium rare) because it goes dry and bland very quickly if it's done like that.
Duck suffers from overcooking too, more of a flavour intensification that your mouth can't get itself around and thus fails at tasting.
Shame that a lot of people just can't get hold of game other than supermarkets or t'internet. I'm very lucky to be surrounded by high quality game butchers and their stock is excellent. Everything from antelope to yak (no zebra yet, but I'd guess like horse, which is mediocre) and good prices too.
A bambi and thumper stew would taste great! plenty of vino and stock veg. Try serving it with celeriac and caramelised onion mash and a beetroot foam. Damn, I've made myself really really hungy now.
Editz - If I ever went back to cheffing I would definitely put Bambi and Thumper stew on the menu. It would taste great and sell well with a name like that. Possibly even get young kids out to shock interested in game, which is always good.
