I cut this out the beef split as it belongs here.

I also think we have to hold ourselves to the highest standard on our name servers, whatever the game. By that I mean tell whoever is modding (usually berk) that someone is being a dick, get them warned/banned, but don't spam vote kick or be dickish toward them.

We need to put some effort in with teef and cod4 maybe as well, I know past actions/game changes have soured these games for a lot of people, but they are still enjoyable imo. Teef had a great many of us participating until they announced the upgrades, hopefully this year will see those complete and we can step back in with 10+ on TS.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the one game I've managed to join. It just seems like the way games are joined and created is stacked agains a group of people who specifically want to play together. I'm hoping that a bit of patching sorts that all out, although I can't see any way around being the fifth guy sat in the lobby listening to four 5punkers playing over TS.

l4d I definitely see as being a very 5punky game, but one of the things holding it back right now is the shitty lobby system forcing us into random US servers and generally being a shit. We can directly join 5punk servers from the group thing, but it usually dumps you straight into a game which means its half through the first level by the time the rest join, and randoms also seem to like vote kicking 5punk members for friends.

One thing with L4D that I think would end up attracting more players would be if we actually spoke with the randoms - we're all on TS chatting, but the poor 4th guy on our team cant hear what we're doing or the silly fun, and in a game with so few players and so focused on team work playing with what appear to be deaf mute randoms is fail (and just like any other random game he joins). Grimmie likes talking to the randoms at least :lol:

This is what stopped me playing. I really enjoyed the games we played, it's as 5punky a game as you could wish for, but it suffered from CoD 4 being popular at the some time. The games we did play were usually too short, so in the end, I stopped bothering. Then, the upgrades turned up and I didn't feel like going back.

you can turn on the in-game talk option, but it might be annoying to hear others both on teamspack and in the game.

I have it turned on, I just dont ever use it because I'm on ts. The main problem with talking to others in game is obviously that we get it echoing or repeating on TS, and also that sometimes alltalk is off so we cant hear the other half of us :(

I don't get why people have a problem with upgrades. Granted it's annoying when they're are first released there's teams full of the same class but it soon settles down. It strikes me as unfounded weepage.

I don't have a problem with them per se. However, going into a game feeling like you are at a disadvantage is a little off-putting. I'm shit at games at the best of times, I don't need to be gimped any further :)

Hardly unfounded, but I should probably just get on with the game.

Well, that's the thing, many of the unlocks have pros and cons and they mostly just open up other tactics. At least I believe this is the case. It's certainly nowhere near the level evident in the recent CoD games.

I think a lot of us gave up when you did, so if we started again we'd all be equally disadvantaged. A few of them require some stupid and game-ruining hoops to be jumped through to attain, so I'll probably just forget they're there and play with what I have.

The easiest way is to cheat by using a special map. Although many require compliance from others, which can be tricky to organise. I've not bothered too much myself. The only unlock I have is the flare gun for pyro, which is fun to use but it replaces the shotty.

We could collectively join a cheating map and make a l33t 5punk squad.

Nothing wrong with tangents, that's part of the whole 5punky thing. When I said I'd be more actively moderating I meant I'd be trying harder to stop catfights. Course if a tangent would be better served in a seperate thread that's fine.

There are little to no achievement whoring lately, it's pretty enjoyable.

And remember, even with upgrades, no classes became imbalanced, all of the weapons you get with achievements usually have equal tradeoffs for advantages (with the possible exception of the ubersaw, which basically gave medic melee weapons a point).
