Having only just read this post through fully, I'm honoured and slightly scared that a couple of you put my name forward. Trouble is that left to my own devices, I generally a useless shit (that and the fact I've only just got back into posting properly after a 2 month lull of lurking). I think it would only work if there was someone else for me to spark off - I'm bloody awful at planning, instead preferring the spontaneity of random thoughts that occur mid conversation (which is why I love our random TS waffle - I'd forgotten how much I'd missed it).
Regarding name in green lights, it's something I've never been fussed about. I also think it's sort of nice for new people to see that not all long standing active members are necessarily mods.
I'd also recommend Pete - the spamming ginger cupcake

Indeed. On most forums being a mod is a kind of accolade, but I really think that the way we work takes a lot of that away. Mods aren't here to lord it over normal members by locking posts and telling people how to behave - if they did they'd lose their green name pretty quickly. It's a job, there to make the place run nicer. I've deliberately put most of this discussion in public view (the lead up to this was about 8 posts long and pretty much consisted of my original posts with FJ, Stoat and Spoodie adding ideas) so that we make decisions as a whole and everyone can feel involved in the evolution of the site, rather than the admins dictating what will be happening.Roman Totale wrote:Regarding name in green lights, it's something I've never been fussed about. This is relevant to the mod changearound. Giving up mod status doesn't make a member any less important, and getting mod status makes someone no more important.

I've been turned away from a few forums by perfectly ordinary people getting mod status and turning into utter bell-ends. Thankfully everyone here is fairly immune to the 'this is the internet so I can say what I like with total impunity' thing that a lot of places have.Dog Pants wrote:Indeed. I do look around and wonder sometimes about the e-personalities of those around me, the quiet unassuming fella in the corner might be the biggest smack talking 'tard once he's on xbox live.
Oddly enough I've found out in the case of a few workmates. An impending LAN we're going to attempt for those with worse connections than me might prove revealing too. Anery, obviously, who I knew in advance had a very similar outlook to me. Another colleague I almost asked to stop xfiring me until he could learn to talk to me in English, but in the end asking him to repeat himself in a language I could understand toned down the l33tspeak. Needless to say, I'm very careful who I invite here. Conversely though, I'm confident that most 5punkers I meet in RL will be pretty decent sorts, as has been proved 100% so far.HereComesPete wrote:I do look around and wonder sometimes about the e-personalities of those around me, the quiet unassuming fella in the corner might be the biggest smack talking 'tard once he's on xbox live.

I disagree, and I hate the new colour. I propose a quick round of soggy biscuit to settle the matter. That's my answer to everything, though.mrbobbins wrote:ROMAN FOR EMPEROR!!
Or something. I agree with everything here, as do most people by the looks of things, must be a first, I suggest we lock the forum down for a week until everyone re-learns how to disagree.
and I hate the new colour.

Nothing solid. We're throwing ideas around, deciding on features and design. It's going to take a while!HereComesPete wrote:Soooooo. Any update on changes?
Tests are continuing. If things stay stable, search will be reactivated to registered members.HereComesPete wrote:More importantly, I've been loading 5punk a lot faster and not losing new posts and what not, dunno about others however. Is this just a lull in the dreamhost spaccy? Or have we achieved a fix?
