It sounds like a first custom build, I reckon at least 2 hours for the actual build.

Expecting a stuck on: Heatsink and case cables.

Perhaps we should have linked him to a build guide, so he doens't do something like try and put the cpu in the wrong way around.

Software install enough to post on 5punk will be a further 2 hours.

its actually my second, but i had help last time.

it IS taking ages though, had trouble with the 5.25 to 3.5 converter tray thing in the antec 900 case.

i now have everything physically installed in the case, but need to cablke everything up

on the PSU there is a FM Connector (PSU fan RPM), would i be right in asssuming that would connect to PWR_FAN on the motherboard?

Woo! :ahoy:

I hope you've already dialed your mate who's waiting for his mesh and given him a nice friendly 'aaaaaah fucker, I win!' down the phone, it's the only way he'll learn how much you love him.

I think there's an AV thread somewhere. I use NOD32 (from Cheeseandham, lovely vendor that he is) and Sygate Personal Firewall, but that's just my preference.

AVG is ok-ish, as is AVAST. for free you won't do any better. If you want to pay monies I recommend NOD32 or Kaspersky. Kaspersky is great if you want a security bundle as it has a firewall, anti-spyware, and some other bits. I think NOD32 also can be had in such a bundle but I am not sure.

Corporate type Symantec stuff is OK too, but stay the fuck away from Norton and McAfee. They're shit.
