aaaaah, you spotted that one then!

Deject, your spell says there is no Gordon Freeman style vents. There is, however, an Aliens style false ceiling, easily big enough for someone to crawl through, if they found a hole into it.

In fact, now you are looking, you notice that the ceiling tiles just above the walls to the central lab are beginning to shake ever so slightly. Almost like something was crawling over them.

See, there's always the danger of giving a GM ideas with things like this.

Leland, in the style of the SWAT team guy in The Matrix wrote:They're in the ceiling. THEY'RE IN THE CEILING! Shit we need to regroup or we will get swarmed. Where are you guys?
If I had a machine gun I'd be spraying the ceiling at this point.

Joose, I have 2 questions:

A) Can Leland make an educated guess where the ghouls in the ceiling are, based on the Detect Enemies and like sound and sight?

B) What are the ceiling tiles made out of and are they flammable? If they're probably flammable, do they look fairly dry?

Additionally to that, can Chopper (as an ex-fireman) work out how the fire might spread etc? I think I took "Fire" as a skill group.

Well I ask because I would like to try setting the ceiling on fire if they're up there. I have a nice Flamethrower spell (high drain because fire is cool) that I took just because throwing fire is just cool.

You can certainly make an educated guess. If you were shooting at someone that you knew was there, I believe its just a standard roll with a hefty -6 modifier for only knowing roughly where they are.

Ceiling tiles look like standard ceiling tiles, which are not a million miles away from thick cardboard. Certainly flammable, and they look bone dry.

Well, its pretty much all the same up there: if it catches fire its going to spread pretty much at random. Your skill is enough to tell you that it would burn to cinders pretty quickly, but not much detail on exactly how it would spread.
Deject wrote:(high drain because fire is cool)
don't forget you already have a bit of stun damage, and the drain would be at +1 horse, due to the background count. But you are right, fire is cool...

Well, instead of dealing with a -6 modifier, how about I blast the fuck out of their cunts with some Powerball?

I shall pick a spot close to where they look like they are and far enough away that we are not in the spell's range and launch that shit! AoE for the win I hope!

Powerball horse 5 (Drain: 5)

Magic + Spellcasting - 1(13 dice): 7 hits hotcha!
Drain Resist (8 dice): 3 hits, 2 more stun. Now I'm on another -1, not so hot.

Yes. Or I could use my assault shotgun which doesn't offer any drain in any way to me at all...

Too late.

If they drop down at a distance I'll try and take a couple with the bow, if not - I'm going in swinging.

Well, more accurately, direct spells act like this. Indirect spells (flamethrower, acid stream, etc) dont need you to see the target. So, due to you failing to remember this, you have gained 2 more stun and hurt 0 ghouls.

So, pete, you want to shoot at them then?

oh for fucks sake. I didn't forget, I misinterpreted the rules on area spells. I thought I only had to see the center of the area I wanted to blast and that anything inside the radius would be affected.

I blame shitty GM and shitty rule book for not explaining the rules on spellcasting properly. :x

Since you never answered my question earlier, if i cast Powerball with myself in the effect radius would I be affected by it?

Its actually pretty clear in the rulebook.

Just in case theres still confusion:

Direct spells only affect things you can see. Area affect spells only affect things in the radius of the spell that you can see. Basically, if you cant see it, it doesn't get affected, regardless of any other factors.

Things like mirrors can be used to "see" targets, as can entirely optics based sights/binoculars. But thats it. Cameras are no good, digital displays are no good, etc etc.

So if you threw a powerball at a group of ghouls, if one of them was hiding behind a pillar, it wouldn't hit him even if he were technically in the middle of the spell. However, if there was a big mirror behind him so you could see his reflection, he would be toast.
Since you never answered my question earlier, if i cast Powerball with myself in the effect radius would I be affected by it?
Now that is less easily answered. Im going to say no, it wouldn't affect you, but it *would* affect your buddies (presuming you can see them adn they are in the radius).

P.S. I shall now apply one of my level 3 Stimulant Patches. This lets me ignore 3 boxes of Stun for 30 minutes.

I think from now on I'm not going to cast any spells unless I ask Joose if it's going to actually do anything since he revels in my failure. I've just thought of something: since it's a suspended ceiling, it's pretty much hanging there. I don't know how much the subceiling weighs, but my Levitate spell needs one hit per 200kg of mass. Would it be feasible to sort of lift up the bulk of the subceiling to kind of expose/trap the ghouls up there?
