Right, the first expansion has recently come out in the form of Rising Storm, and I think a couple of us have it.
Still in WW2, but now over in the pacific and it's Japanese vs Merkins.
I'm quite enjoying it, the maps are a lot better as they're not as constrained by trying to ape the real life battle grounds of Europe, the weapon sets are a lot more interesting, the flamethrower is a glorious beast to see used with it shooting massive fireballs everywhere, and it just feels a lot better on the whole.
Yeah, there's still some rough patches here and there, but it's actually quite a good game.
I've been playing on Realism servers which I normally dislike due to certain mechanics, but I've still been enjoying it. I suspect I'll love it when I actually play it in classic mode or find a realism server with the classic weapon handling turned on (aka, more sway and no zoom eyes).

As far as I'm concerned realism is the only way to play the game, it's harder but more rewarding in the end. Not for people without patience though, which makes it a complete mystery as to why I like the game so much.

Classic mode is Realism with a bit of extra weapon sway, limits on weapons, none of the stat boosts on and some other limits on the soldiers. Personally I prefer it to Realism mode as I think that mode with its bionic zoom eyes and lack of weapon sway is far too much like insta-gib mode but without the fun.
Classic is still just as deadly, but there's actually a chance of firefights and the older players don't get unfair stat advantages mean it really is down to player skill, over Realism's "who is the best twitch shooter" mechanics.
Action mode can diaf though.

I honestly can't tell the difference between the two, except that in classic mode I can sprint for longer. All I care about is shooting other guys with a bolt action rifle, and I can do that in both modes. I also don't get what you mean by twitch mechanics, if you mean gameplay similar to cod than I can only say that you're wrong, shooting a guy in realism in this game is still harder than in most modern FPS's I know.
But yeah, action mode is pretty shit. Don't play action mode.

Classic mode is shorter sprints Mr J, as you have less stamina.
narf though, you're right, it's only small differences between the two.

Weird, in beta you could sprint longer.

I appear to have this without buying it. Do you get the MP for free if you have Red Orchestra?

Not that I know of, I had the vanilla version and I paid for rising storm. They are merged though, steam doesn't display them as separate games so you probably have to pay to unlock the content for RS.

Ah right.

The answer is sort of.
Tripwire actually have a bit of nouse and didn't want to split the community like BF/COD does, so if you own RO2 you have all the RS content on your machine and can happily join any of the RS servers and have a go.
The caveat is that you're limited to the rifleman class in RS unless you buy it. So if you want to see what it's all about, fire up RO2 and off you go!
As as aside; listening to people putting on fake Japanese accents when playing on the Japanese team had me in stitches last night.

Huh, whaddayou know.
Tripwire have
officially pulled some of the community APC's in house and are properly releasing them.
Finally getting some proper vehicles into the game.
Also of note is that alongside adding a new map or two ever now and again, TWI are releasing new weapons. Japanese in RS got a Type 97 Sniper a while back, and the Russkies got a PPS 43.
Not used either, but the additions are all welcome.

That's pretty cool, the tank maps are almost never played so some additional vehicles are most welcome. And I tried both new weapons but of the two I only really gave the 97 a long enough try. It's supposed to be a less powerful round that adds a bit of range but other than different sights there's seemingly little difference (at first glance). I only got to try the PPS once and it did seem to solve the problem that the PPSH had: the gun shoots so fast and recoils so hard that when an enemy was further than a few feet away from you most of your bullets would end up all over the map except in the guy right in front of you, even with the 70 rounds the drum mag offered. Indoors it's an unstoppable murder machine though.
