I played through the tutorial rather clumsily. The mechanic for freezing water and then walking over it really irritated me, but soaking all the mages at the party, then zapping them was fun.

I didn't find it to be a big problem. I did fall in once or twice, but it felt about as clumsy as spellcasting while iceskating should be without being too hard to bother using.

Are you using AoE (shift + Right click)? Spam R until it fills the bar then cast - freezes a huge patch of water very quickly.

No, just right-click, which squirted out a puny cone. Game doesn't seem to want to run today, the process continues, but just it flashes black then back to desktop. Have deleted and will reinstall, updated my graphics drivers last night as I was getting (not Magicka-related) overheating problems.

Gah, fucker won't run at all.

Edit: Fixed. Deleting the savegames (well all) directories seems to have cured it.

Last bossfight is a bloody cakewalk, I did it without healing even once. Fafnir was a lot harder (although it would be a lot easier if I developed social skills!).
