Server is offline for now. I've taken a backup of the world.

Perhaps if there's interest I can start it up again when 1.6 is released. Perhaps with a fresh world, if people want that?

Because of cost/needing the server for something or lack of interest? I've been doing a few things on there recently, but no point running it for just me - a copy of the files would be welcome though.

Mostly lack of interest. I checked the stats and it seems to show only 1 person on occasionally, but it's not easy to see on the graphs with such small numbers. Plus I don't want to be paying for something people aren't really using. I'm happy to pay if it's used though and from what I've seen this month, with this new host Clanforge, we could get away with a cheaper option of £16/month. Also I'm busy with other games, as I guess most other people are.

What do people think? The world file is on its way to Dropbox, I'll post details later.

Personally it's going to take something pretty interesting to get me back to Minecraft for more than just the odd tinker. Something that will give me an objective, like monster villages or zombie hordes attacking at night. Even then I'm happy to get my kicks solo.

1.6 brings SMP Nether, which could be fun/terrifying. I don't know if the new sky realm goes in for 1.6 or not.

Perhaps with the release of Terraria Notch will be inspired to focus some on real gameplay elements, that'd be nice.

It really would. The sandbox elements are brilliant, but it needs to have some focus now for longetivity. I'd like to see Dwarf Fortress style megabeasts and inevitable demise.

this ^ for me minecraft is now an outdoors simulator made from lego with weird PHISICS and exploding cactus people, any kind of goal beyond get all diamond equipment to look for more diamonds before it wears out would be nice.
actually thinking about it a roguelike type of objective could possibly work, something along the lines of get to the nether, get orb type item thingy, get back without dying. although more areas and threats would probably be needed for this to be a feasable idea, though this idea could just be because of all the roguelikes ive been playing recently.

Actually, I'd approve of a complete server reset if, of course, there will be a backup of whatever we built so far. I'm busy with Terraria right now, but when I get bored of it I'll probably be around on the MC server again. Building stuff was always fun when you know what exactly it was that you wanted to build.
