So it's restricted to only SCL 11 people? huh?

You get shot by cloak if you try acess that fle when your SCL is 11, if you are 10 or more, access away...

yeah and I'm SCL 8.9. I guess I'm just confused why I got the section D notice instead of the file.

Sorry for a short derail but how is SCL calculated? Without having a rulebook or access to one, I've no idea how it actually works. Can someone point me in the right direction?

SCL 11 is SLA employees.
Ops start at an SCL of 10 and from there it goes batshit illogically. You gain SCL with increments on 0.1, after 10.9, however, comes 10A. This goes on the same way in the order of: 10 10A 9 9A 9B 8 8A 8B 8C 7 7A 7B 7C 7D 6 6A 6B 6C 6D 6E 5 5A 5B 5C 5D 5E 5F 4 4A 4B 4C 4D 4E 4F 3 3A 3B 3C 3D 3E 3F 2 2A 2B 2C 2D 2E 2F 1.
So "SCL 10 or more", is basically anything but SCL 11.
Basically, Deej is 0.1 from SCL 8A.

Aha, it goes down the scale on the whole, that makes more sense, although you're quite right, it's rather illogical to go UP the scale within the SCL rating before going down the alphabet.
How queer. Thanks Bubbles.

Yeah, Bali hits the spot. It's not so confusing if you see it in table form. I was trying to inject a bit of atmosphere by giving up an official looking personnel file. It's worth being aware of D-Notices, but I might have missed the mark here. Deject (the character) would know that was an official and fairly standard disclaimer that basically says "if you're not meant to see this we can legally fuck you up if we want". The amount they'll fuck you up depends on the information.
It took me far too long to write that little excerpt by the way, with convincing and structured post codes, phone numbers and employment records.
Maybe easier to understand, as a few generalisations;
11 (factory/office worker)
10 10A (new Ops, Team leader, Shiver)
9 9A 9B (Line manager, experienced Op, Shiver Sgt)
8 8A 8B 8C (Project manager, Shiver station Lt)
7 7A 7B 7C 7D (Shiver captains, veteran Ops, Contract Killers)
6 6A 6B 6C 6D 6E (Shiver sector commandants, elite Ops, Cloak Division specialists)
5 5A 5B 5C 5D 5E 5F (Minor Dept Heads - Dept of Artillery, subdivision chief executives - Slaughterhouse Six, Calaharvey)
4 4A 4B 4C 4D 4E 4F (Major Dept Heads - Dept of Employment, Dept of Sanitation, major corporate subdivision heads - FEN weapons division executives, Power Projects CEO)
3 3A 3B 3C 3D 3E 3F (Important Dept heads - Dept of War, some Cloak Division executives, Key Subdivision CEOs - FEN, MAL, GA)
2 2A 2B 2C 3D 2E 2F (Privileged Dept heads - Commander Cradle, Stygmartyr, Internal Affairs)
1 (Mr Slayer, Intruder, Preceptor Teeth, etc.)

Ah, no I didn't. Ta.

I'll give Haynes a call later to see if he can check it out.
Moi? The internal politics of the huge corporate Big Brother that is SLA Industries is no work of mine, I just relate the story.
Sumner wrote:You can call me Jordene if you like. However you prefer to work. I don't know too much about her social life. I don't think she socialises much with people from the office, she's not really of the same social status as the rest of us. She has a husband though, I don't know his name. I can get her computer logs for you and security at the building should be able to give you records of her door access. I'm not sure I can let you bug her desk, it is a SLA department office. We'd have to check on the legality of it. Feel free to come in after hours though, I'll arrange for access for you.
Her history I'll get together and email to you. We should have her CV and employment record.
Deej, you can also find out her previous addresses, husband's name, his basic details. Any official and not particularly sensitive information. No need for another roll, I got distracted writing a far too time consuming official looking report.

I'll get the previous addresses, and the husband's info. We can do this thoroughly. After that, if there is no more business I think we can get started.

So, where do we start? I reckon Deej can do some Oyster diving to see if he can get more info on our target and her husband; I'll speak to Haynes to see if he can check we're not stepping on Cloak; and K'trr and Eraser can, erm, loom?
Discretely loom.
Dirk wrote:Good afternoon Mr. Haynes! I wonder if I might prevail on you for a moment of your time? We have a job that sounds simple enough - suspected corp espionage, discretely trail a woman (no, no I don't have much experience of that) etc, etc. However, my overly cautious senses have started tingling on this one.
Essentially I want to see if you can check whether our target is IA. I think it would be a bad career move for us if it turns out we've been bugging our own people. Also, and this has just occurred to me, could you check our contact out too? This BPN has been passed to us by someone who might not be as thorough as you in the vetting process, and I'd appreciate your expert input on this.
I'll send the details of our target and our contact over right away.
The bit about checking our contact out really did just occur to me as I was typing that out. Deej, can you check her too?
Also, reckon we get someone to trail the hubby? He might hang out in bars and talk after a few beers.

I think once I've done some background info lookups, I'll start tailing the target as best I can. I'll hold off on the hardware based surveillance until Dirk gets the OK that she's not IA or anything.

Haynes wrote:Doing a spot of moonlighting for Mr Langley? You're right he's not as thorough. Got to protect my assets though. I'll check into them, but understand that I might not be able to tell you everything I find. As for IA, neither of us will ever know. Cloak I might, but as long as you're playing by the rules you should be okay. Let me give you an example from an old squad of mine.
They were on search and rescue, I think, in Cannibal Sector 4. There were a few skirmishes with Ex-War Criminals. The scout spotted a shooter in SLA armour looking down a rifle scope at the group, marked him for the Shaktar gunner, who nailed him with about about twenty 12.7mm. Turns out he was a Cloak observer tailing them after a spot of bother with the squad's other Shaktar. Didn't matter, Cloak decided their agent failed in his task because he was spotted and would have told him so after his LAD treatment. Would have had one of the squad not taken his head off for bounty thinking he was an Ex-War Criminal. That didn't do them any favours, but they were following SLA policy so nothing came of it.

Sumner leaves, a little time passes.
Haynes wrote:Mr Gently, I have a little information for you. Ms Sumner is a project manager in the Dept of Delegation. Strictly corporate stuff, never raised a BPN before. It's unusual for someone in her position to be hiring Ops, surprised her budget manager allowed it.

Well I think it's time to start tailing our mark. I'll get in position outside her work, timed for when she's going to leave for the day. I'll stay far enough behind so not to spook her.
Stakeout:
Hiding (4) + Stationary bonus (2): 2, 5 + 6 = 13
Tailing:
Sneaking (4): 4, 10 + 4 = 18
Hiding (4): 5, 2 + 4 = 11
Tracking (7): 9, 7 + 7 = 23

Bit of a ropey second hide roll, but she doesn't appear to notice you.
Briony is a thin and tired looking young woman wearing a business suit. She leaves work about an hour after everyone else and walks a few streets to the gauss train station. She's soaked in that time. She boards a train to Suburbia which takes her to a sector near the Downtown wall in about 20 minutes. She then walks a further half a dozen streets to an identikit Suburbian concrete tower block, getting soaked again. She vanishes into the building using a keycard.

As she has left work for the day, I'm going to have peek around her office. Is Sumner still at work?

Nope, that part of the building is empty. Briony doesn't have an office as such, just a desk in a large office that's just outside the door to Sumner's office.
