D&D Adventure #1: Dungeon Siege

Hooray! I'm not used to actions in D&D so you'll have to bear with me until I get the hang of that.

I don't know what the AC of the orcs is, but I'm shooting at the closest one anyway.

You let loose a mighty arrow that slices through the air with a whistle, and slams into the side of the closest Orc's head.
Brain squirts out of the other side of its skull, sending it toppling to one side.
He's quite dead.
Other Orc (the one that just lobbed his javelin) lets out another angry cry, and deciding that the massive paladin screaming at him is a more threatening target charges into an attack!
He draws his weapon, closes the 50ft gap between himself at Bart, and swings his shining falchion through the air.. It connects with Bart's steel shield and slides harmlessly to one side.
Bart's turn.

Squishy orcs. Must have been unlucky with its hit dice.
Shankley emerges from the bushes and shoulders his bow.
EDIT: While I'm at it I'll sneakily rifle his pockets;

If I can I'll retrieve my arrow from the orc's noggin. They don't grow on trees y'know.Shankley wrote:Bravo, Paladin. You saved my bacon there. Are orcs common around here?

Your arrow looks splintered, and the arrowhead pops off, caught in the Orc's skull.
Rule book says ammo's well and truly used once it's shot, I'm afraid!
I guess Bart will need to make a spot check, to see if he notices you pickpocketing a corpse! Beat 17, Joose.
Incidentally one of them has a rather heavy looking leather pouch tied to its belt.

Dont know what I need to add in for that roll, so have an unmodified d20 roll. Do with it what you will.Bart wrote:Alas, Mr Shankley, evil is common everywhere.

heh. I imagine that'll do.
He kneels down next to the orc he felled, and mutters in its ear about "Showing you the way" and being "with St Cuthbert now". He then moves over to the one Shankley shot in the heed. He looks deep in thought for a moment, then bops it on the head with his mace.Good thinking, Mr Shankley! Im sure the refurbishment of the church will require much coin, and any we can honourably gather will be put to good use.
I'll have a shufty at the pouch. Since I've been rumbled I'll toss my findings to Bart.
I'll hand one of the potions over to him.Shankley wrote:I'm sure these orcs will be pleased with their donation when they look upon Arcadia. From afar, presumably. I don't imagine many greenskins make it to paradise. Might I suggest we don't allocate any tradeables until we return though, I'd hate to have to retract something promised to The Cudgel so we could buy a meal.
Oh, and before I forget and we meet any more horrible creatures, I thought to pick this up for you. I know you left it for those needy in the church, noble Paladin, but alas my faith is not as strong as yours and I took the offer.

What a brown-noser
The bag turns out to be quite weighty, and contains a couple hundred silver coins.
Buried in amongst the coins are some gems; a couple of pale blue stones and a metallic looking pebble.
Gems such as those, as Forenrond pointed out, are called trade-goods, and can be treated as a liquid asset, almost as if they were cash.
You can sell armour and weapons for half of their trade value, generally.
You can make a guess as to an items worth with an appraise check.

Yeah, as the appraisal is based on your roll for the item.
Gems: The pale blue stones are blue quartz, the pebble is hematite.
They're about 10gp each, you're probably familiar with them as they're a lightweight alternative to pinching coins.
Swords: You're not so sure on the swords, but you think they might fetch an attractive 50gp each.
They are however 8lb each, so heavy if you plan to be looting lots of stuff.
Armour: You know they're wearing Studded leather armour, it's pretty common and goes for about 12gp, similar to the stuff you're wearing.
However, each suit weighs about 20lbs.
If you want to take the heavier stuff, you may want to read up on Carrying Capacity on pg161 of the Player's Guide.

No need, my character sheet works everything out for me. I know I've about 18lb before I hit medium encumbrance, which I don't want because people hit me in the face then. I'll be sticking with the gems, Bart can pick other bits up if he likes. I suppose I could grab a sword, but I'll only end up dropping it later I imagine.
Maybe worth dragging the bodies into the bushes and grabbing stuff later if we can.
