I would think the gargoyles would be more interesting to second graders than oxford, but I've not seen oxford, so I'm not sure. Dominque does kinda have an interest in scary things though, so I'd vote for gargoyles.

dolly, given who you work for, it shouldnt be that hard to get a post card from teh 'real' ISS.........should it? :)
nope no ISS postcard from them. they said it wouldn't be back in time before she got out of school (with having to launch it up there, sign and come back to earth) and they were to busy shooting a golf ball from the station instead. Now if you want an autographed golf ball and have them hit it in your direction they can do. I can go to our store here on center and get a hubble or some other card from here and send that from work.

That would be quite awesome enough Dolly! Although one from space would have been totally amazing! It would by far have the 'greatest distance travelled' award!

Just getting a card from anywhere will be amazing for her! (She doesn't know Dad has people from all over sending her cards, you lot are part of a BIG surprise! :)

Grrrr for public schools....
Whereas all the parents were told that each classroom would be tracking the postcards received and teaching about the world, turns out that the entire school just has one tiny map with an poorly tracked total placed below the US and the 'restoftheworld'.

Leave it to a state-funded institution to have a great teaching idea, then cock it up in execution.

I've signed the petition started by a neighbor to get the cards sorted by classroom and buy the maps needed to make this project into what was promised. I've even volunteered time to help sort the cards myself.

Part of the school's argument for gimping their project was 'We just don't have the staff to sort all those cards.' What kind of crap is that! Asking for the damn cards, but not being prepared to handle it?

Please don't flame them yet though.... I'm hoping to show the kids that things can get fixed nice and proper if people work together, kinda what I was trying to show by getting cards from all over. Still pretty cheesed off by the school atm, but dealing.

Also, werk has pretty much banned me from using my laptop there, so I'll be pretty gimped at keeping in touch whilst in the office. You can get me emails at my yahoo email if needed though.

Life goes on....

i'll search around GSFC, NASA and see if we have any satellite images of the world they can use. damn school board lazy bastards. and i just heard were going to the moon and they're cutting our budget. doesn't make sense in my opinion. hey if they wanted to get high tech they could use google map, very cool program and they'll actually be able to see the building they were sent from.

So should we still send the cards to the school or shall we just send them straight to your young 'un?

Petition and public support ftw! In SPADES! I get to work with my daughter's hot young teacher to sort the cards Monday night! I got a written, not typed by secretary and signed, but WRITTEN apology from the principal. If I wanted to, I could probably run for schoolboard if I play this right!

:) I think the calls to the schoolboard were the real winners though. Oh, and Dominque got two cards today, (funny how they sorted HER out some...) She didn't know where they were from, sorry guys, but she said they were pretty!

Thanks for all the support, what a week!
