I think the problem in the UK isnt so much that Joe Public think people join the army just to kill people. I think the problem is that Joe Public thinks the average army fella is a mindless thug who spends all their down time getting pissed and thumping people.
Trouble is, although im sure the majority are *not* like that, the nice ones are not as noticable.
I would hasten to point out that, although im not in the horses, theres a great number of my family that are. I dont think they are *all* thugs.

I have nothing against the military, per se. My problem is what certain people in Government use the military for.
I find it slightly ironic that whilst I am a bit of a pacifist at heart and have strong feelings against much of the military actions currently being undertaken, and against guns in general, most of the games I play consist of shooting people in various different guises!
Anyway, those are just my thoughts on it and I'm not wanting to ruffle any feathers here.

You might be surprised how many military types share that view Lat. Beyond the Para Regt. and the Hereford Hooligans, I know of few people that look forward to war.Lateralus wrote:I have nothing against the military, per se. My problem is what certain people in Government use the military for.

I don't doubt you for a minute mate, and I don't envy you either.Sheriff Fatman wrote:You might be surprised how many military types share that view Lat. Beyond the Para Regt. and the Hereford Hooligans, I know of few people that look forward to war.
Out of curiosity then, why have you guys joined up in the military? Hehulk - whats attracting you, other than those timed runs which we know you love so.

Hard to say why. I needed a job, but it's more than that. A quote I once heard is a good analogy:Lateralus wrote:

<i>"I can't explain to people why I ride Harleys'. To those who understand no explanation is necessary, to those who don't, none is possible"</i>
It's just one of those things people do. I am not in favour of National Service, but a stint in the military might teach people a thing or two about what it is to be human.
And for the record, I am no longer in the mob

Probably a dozen reasons, but the crux of it was that I wanted to make a drastic change to my lifestyle. For the record I hate unneccessary violence (a fact that's as relevant to my gaming as it is to my occupation), and I joined the RAF knowing full well I'd be unlikely to be expost to much, if any. I'm sure all our pongos will agree that the RAF barely counts as military anywayLateralus wrote:Out of curiosity then, why have you guys joined up in the military?
EDIT: Bah, beaten to the punchline by Anham due to being distracted and taking too long to post.
