I quite enjoyed my baptism of fire game last night. Will give the basic training a another go later to see if I can fly things any better than I did last night.

I just spent the morning playing a full on Capture the Island on the big map. Pretty epic stuff, though I think I was too slow to get going and the OPFOR ended up owning me (on easy level)

I love this game.

A few of us bum around for hours on a sparsely populated map, overcoming ridiculous odds - 3 infantry vs 3 APCs, a tank, and a platoon of bad guys in bad moods.

Few more hours later, Friz pipes up "I bet on the selection screen there was a Pilot option to fly those bloody blackhawks"

There was. :)

That article makes him sound like a 5punker.

More pro-tip: shift-left click on the map to set a personal waypoint, get a range to target, or indicate where that pesky loan sniper is hiding.

You're talking about an ex-tank commander, do you really expect anything different? :P

I'm not sure you could see that statement on any other gaming forum.

Arma2 server is running a perpetual Domination 5punky version map atm, to see what happens. I started at an odd time so it's almost midnight on there atm. Not sure how to resupply the artillery yet, so use it sparingly.

Feel free to log in and continue the good fight from time to time :)

I'm rather enjoying this persistent thing, makes it easy to dip in occasionally.

Just set up a couple of TP locations, ammo box at the southern one.

Annoyingly arty cannons don't work on roofs :(

:)

Seems machine gunners can build proper sandbag MG nests, and medics can build MASH tents.

Seem to despawn on disconnect though, but I can see FOB 5punk being doable with a few of us.

Oh, and I broke the sky.

I keep getting startled by goats, but I've cleared the cows off the runway now (with a det pack) so we can safely use the A10 again.

I didn't realise different classes can build stuff. I must have a play around with them. I also discovered trucks can pick up static artillery so will try to repair/rearm it that way.

Going to try and recapture Pusta again, before they build up a presence there.

Yeah, engineers can pack up things like the M2/DshK tripods, and launch them into the back of a truck

Nifty. Rearmed the arty by picking it up with the truck and dumping it on the vehicle fixing point, but it desynchs with the arty module so becomes direct fire only which is slightly annoying.

Anyway, got a bit carried away this afternoon and cleared the southern town, recaptures Pusta, and set up a new base on Town #4 :)

Cleaned up a bit, Had a poke at the town they stole, set new MHQ.

oh, and got the huey shot down by a tunguska, in our fucking base (can't retrieve atm for obvious reasons)

Things I'd like after we complete this one:

TP back to airstrip from MHQs (I know the MHQs support this, but sometimes it's handy to have both in the field)
Wreck lift truck (or something we can use to manhandle wrecks in/around the airstrip) doesn't seem the salvage trucks support this.
Some bikes/motorbikes that auto respawn after a while in the base.

No idea how possible any of that is, but I had to think somewhere :P
