Well hopefully we can start posting articles once Stoat has had a play about with the Word Press bits. Until then we can either write them and hang onto them until we have somewhere to put them or post them on the forums. Personally I'd prefer the former so that when we do get the articles running it'll all be new content and not recycled forum posts, but some articles would benefit from other peoples' input. Or just stuff people are so excited about they can't hang onto it, stick it on the forums. There's no real rules.

I'm going to write my article and keep it all hidden until publishing time. But things like the 5punky games article neds the accompanying thread to hone the resulting article to a razor sharp comedy gold mugging in the streets of nostalgia.
I'm happy to help anyone with proof reading and such if they want. If it's still wrong after I've had a look then don't blame me.

Leave Ned out of it. But yes, you're right. I failed a bit with that article (although I didn't have long to chuck it together because I was being nagged), so get discussing it you bummers.HereComesPete wrote:But things like the 5punky games article neds the accompanying thread to hone the resulting article to a razor sharp comedy gold mugging in the streets of nostalgia.

How are you thinking things will be posted?
I can't help feeling that
a) Wordpress is overkill for what we want
b) Yet another application with hacky access to the users database is dangerous both for security and stability
We could just as easily have the articles posted on the wiki (with convenient /talk facility and built-in version control ) with approved articles cached and sent as static html to a permanent address.

It was mainly the abilities to have nicer formatting options and be easy to use for everyone. I really hate the wiki-markup language and suspect it's one of the reasons we have less content in there than we'd like, whereas Wordpress is pretty familiar to anyone that's used the board or had a blog, as well as having options to import stuff from other blog formats.
Also it's a perceptual change - wiki is old, 5punk Articles is new, plus the more it looks like a traditional games blog, the better advert it is for the site. I know I subconsciously switch between expecting entertainment or textbook material depending whether a site looks like it's a blog or a wiki.
Until whatever we decide is in place, articles can be posted here - after all it's easy to copy the text across whatever we end up with.
If integration isn't possible - or desirable (given it increases the risk of attack) - then each article writer creates a discussion thread and links it at the end of their artricle - all commenting in Wordpress disabled.
That way any new articles are announced here with the creation of the discussion thread, and anyone wishing to comment has to come (and sign up) here.

I don't fully understand what you're suggesting, Stoat, but the outcome I was looking for was a format to publish articles free from the bindings and gubbinry of the forum or wiki. WP was suggested and sounded suitable. All the sites we draw RSS feeds from have something along these lines. It's just something that will extend 5punk past the forum and might draw a little more of the right sort of attention.
If what you're suggesting is something along the lines of writing your article in the Wiki which can then be dropped into a pre-formatted page that shows up as a nice clean article, then yeah that'd be great. I'd assumed it would be easier with third party stuff, but I'm by no means technical when it comes to web stuff.
Put as simply as I can, I envisage a page with the 5punky theme, containing the text of the article and a few pictures. Even better if there's a way of discussing the article underneath it, either in a blog style format, or somehow showing a simplified forum thread underneath.
Hmm. Still not a very concise explanation. For some reason I'm struggling to explain a simple concept.
