Enthusiasm's the main qualification, though a certain level of politeness at least on one's own forum would be appreciated. It's not always easy to bite one's tongue, and I've found the single hardest thing about being site admin is not to be seen to take sides.
Both yourself and other 5punkers have had your bad days, though massively outweighed by your good, but nobody's perfect - except me, obviously.
Truthfully, the admins have considered you as a mod for a while on another 5punker's request, in either MMOs or Computers & Gadgets, as your enthusiasm has impressed us.

The choosing (or retaining) of mods is going to be a hot topic that's probably best discussed in a new thread. Not straying too far though, I'd say that different forums would require different qualities from a mod, for example:
General - possibly given to the Minister of Fun
Hardware - Doesn't need to pimp the forum, but does need to be tech savvy and helpful.
Entertainment - Could be mods for specific sub groups such as film, books, music
Shooters - would need to play a broad spectrum of shooters
General gaming - would need to play a broad spectrum of games not covered by other forums (RTS, RPG)
MMONGS - A couple of mods who play a specific game each but with knowledge of a few (Eve mod, Warcraft mod)
Also, elaborating on Mr. J's (was it?) idea of wiki profile pics, why not use our avatars? That's probably a good way of associating a description with a particular person for those who don't remember names too well.

Our concern is mainly about info in the 0.0 forum you wouldn't want made public. It's probably all so old as not to matter.
It's old enough not to matter - only nice thing is that it's the history of 5punkorp in Eve, that may still live again one day (if current efforts by Jack etc pull off). If poss can we merge both Eve forums into MMO's, and I'll make a single sticky with a brief synopsis and link the most pertinent info.

Ahem
Given that list of mods you seem to be looking for I would be happy to help with any part of it but probably better at hardware, entertainment and general games, (I think berk is more than ample for shooters even though that's my main genre) I play quite a wide range of games in regard to the beard. (slight mid thought de-railment, anyone got that new nwn2 add on ordered? I do hope it's better than the last one.)
Any cloo on new colour? I'm excited about it!
Cuold we maybe fettle the smileys as well? I know it's quite a small thing but I use some of the ones on the expanded page a lot more than the ones <- there. Could just be me, and as for how to switch/arrange I dunno that either. Also like Lat said (kinda) would it be possible to put the message icons in a drop down like the 5cheduler games list? If it's too much faff then no worries, I just think it would clean up the post window and look better.
Also, is it possible to look back at more than the same page when replying? I tend to forget what I'm going to say about stuff very quickly and end up oening a duplicate window with the same page open to see what I was replying to. Possibly just my messed up brain.

Looks like the smilies are listed in the order they were added, so to change them about in the admin panel would involve removing the unpopular ones and putting them back in at the bottom. Don't know if there's a way to do it in the database, but if not I'd say just keep it in mind for when (or if) we make the jump to PHPBB3 because it'd be a pain in the arse otherwise.

I'd agree with getting someone with tallent to simplify it, so this is how i see a probable simplification.

/may have enjoyed making this far too much
Oh, and ministry of fun is an awesome idea.
