Isn't there some mega mod compilation doohicky knocking around now that does all the compatibility stuff for you? I'm sure I've read about it somewhere.
Pahncrd's OEE perhaps? I've tried it and it does work quite well.

Again. I'm going to give this a go again, completely ignoring the main plot and just doing my thing to see if I enjoy it better that way. If I do I'll go and play Fallout 3 again the same way.
The mod question rears its ugly head again. The thing Sheriff linked to needs all the expansions, and I have none. Lat's post is four years old. Anyone any suggestions?

Not my style, don't even have a brush. I might see if they're going cheap though. Shame I don't have the game on Steam.
I wouldn't have to hunt down the disk then either.

That's what I did last time and it was much more enjoyable. Just ignore the main quest completely.
As for mods I used:
Deadlier traps - traps kill you. Sounds bad but it adds good realism
Attack and hide (set to medium) - if you sneak attack someone, especially from range, they don't automatically know exactly where you are
Retroactive health - Endurance has the same effect on health regardless of when you get the endurance
Potion sorter - sorts potions
Quest award leveling - awards for completing quests are more in line with your level
There is another one that I forget the name of that fixes NPC levels. Basically it means that bad guys don't level up at the same rate you do, so you don't end up getting owned by two-bit bandits in full daedric gear.

BTmod is it? I know I have a better leveling one. Most of mine (and I've installed about 20) are aesthetic, but I do have a few useful ones.

Been playing this a lot of late, both on the PC and the PS3 (non-GOTY:
it's broken) for comparision. It's mostly playable raw, but there are a few irksome bugs.
The official patches are here:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/u ... atches.htm
The Unofficial patches, which fix mostly everything are here:
http://www.5punk.co.uk/downloads/index. ... Patches%2F
The add-ons are largely good, Shivering Isles can be had for a couple of quid and it's worth look
ing closely for the Knights of the Nine Compilation CD as it contains almost all the DLC:
* The Wizard’s Tower – Mage stuff including spell-making/enchanting altars, teleporters to the guilds, a garden with
every plant in the game and a vault full of imps
* The Vile Lair – Stuff for evil/vampire characters, including vampire cure and evil gods shrines and human-feeding pen
* The Thieves Den – A crew of pirates to rob for you, plus fences and lockpick sellers and an indestructible boar
* Mehrunes’ Razor - A sword quest
* Horse Armour - Pimp My Horse
* The Orrery – Rebuild it and it grants higher powers (spells)
* Spell Tomes – Adds random loot that teaches you spells
* The titular KotN quest chain
As far as mods go, all the ones
I use I've updated with the current versions at
http://www.5punk.co.uk/downloads/index. ... blivion%2F - those being:
Skingrad Cottage - a free house of your own, not necessary with the expansions, but I like it
Quest Award Levelling - the unique items level with you, like a stabby draining dagger I got on almost my first quest
Elven Map Redux (was Elven Cartographers) - nice colour map
BT Mod - Nice GUI tweaks, such as a big map. Customisable, but fine with the defaults.
QTP3 Redimized - Qarl's Texture Pack - big (2G) pack of nice textures, does have a few very occasional glitches where the screen blanks, but doesn't crash the game like the old version sometimes did
Oblivion Mod Manager - fixes conflicts and makes sure the patches load in the right order
Last but definately not least is the UESP Wiki:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page - for finding all the stuff you missed the first time you played it. There is absolutely
loads I missed.

Just dropped a fiver+1 on the goatee deluxe version, just because. I really cba trawling through the bajillion mods out there now, but I'm sure I remember someone posting a single all-in-one packaged mod that was easy to install, made the game shiny, fixed all the bugs and actually worked. Any hints?

Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul or Francesco's Mod are pretty good game-fixers.

Might have been me pimping
Pahncrd's Oblivion Enhanced Edition. Been a while since I used it but it does all the fixing/shiny-making/quest-adding/etc in one go and adds a metric shit-load of content along with it; the personal castle mod alone is worth the price of admission.

There's a newer thread for it here:

I'm going to give the game another go, bought the Super Sexy Deluxe Edition. As much as I enjoy Patrick Stewart generally, I'm not looking forward to his intro prattle.

how rare.
I'm going attempt to install :
FCOM, which appears to be a combination of lots of the big mods. Looks like a bitch to install though!
Also, there's a useful list :
here

I got FCOM installed finally. Took almost 2 days - they really make it about as complicated as they possible can to install mods, and there's all the usual 'assumed' knowledge about the bajillion acronyms and stuff you'd expect from a old game. But I think it's working ok now, and there's all sorts of stuff going on which I don't remember seeing before (big battle outside the town between the guards and a bunch of highwaymen for example).

I followed this thread for the graphical updates and it made it easier -
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=1306005
It also covers gameplay mods, eg. FCOM.

Well damn, that even has working links and everything. The issue with the FCOM guide is that half the stuff it says to download leads you off on another long chain of dependencies, patching and bizarre acronym soup. I might have to start again with this guide - at least I have most of it downloaded now so it should be quicker.
Nuke data file time!

The visuals part of the guide works almost perfectly, just a little out of date in a couple of places. The results seem good.
I made a backup of the Oblivion folder before starting, so I didn't need to reinstall if it messed things up.

Guyrim will be out next year, we'll be struggling with that instead.
