http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2008/05/ ... -problems/

How does one tell if they are on Blingy or not? I've got an account with them too, and if it's not on blingy then I'll donate any of it if needed.

It's a good question, one that I asked FJ in a roundabout way earlier. He didn't know either, but he reckons 5punk is on the Blingy cluster, Spunky server, Rosecrans virtual server. Hopefully this is correct and we can see problems which might affect us in future appearing on the DH status page.

From my post on the disco board:

http://feeds.dreamhoststatus.com/?q=yel ... +rosecrans shows a status page of stuff directly affecting us.

Yeller is our db, spunky our email and rosecrans our web servers. They are probably virtual and the other three mentioned their actual hosts.

Blingy is a cluster of machines of which one or more of our servers is part (or uses filestore from).

As I mentioned, I've asked for us to be placed in the queue for moving off it.

An update is that DH restarted our web service and claimed it was fixed - I've told them it isn't and requested confirmation that our problems are related to the blingy issue.

Hopefully that page above will let us know when the issues no longer affect us.

On the Contact Support page - there is a link to a custom RSS feed, which may or may not link to the blingy problems for you. Also there's a red message on the contact support page, which explicitly mentions it and says (in a rather confusing way) that we are using it.

Since it's a filestore cluster, it's possible that more than one or all our servers are using it.

They're saying our index.php script is taking three minutes to run, so we're looking into what might be wrong.

For if/when 5punk does go down

http://www.5punkisdown.com/

Is a bit of a work in progress, mostly trying to get it to contain enough info that people can still find games, get at teamspeak the easy way, and ask what people had for lunch.

also contains status info for stuff.

oh, and phpbb3 is an ugly bitch.

DH pointed me to our users table being the main reason for slowness, so I have removed all the never-activated users.

There may be a requirement to prune the userlist further, starting with zero-post people who haven't visited in years, but we will be careful not to remove any lurkers that still pop in now and then.

Some posts may need to be archived, too - but again we'll take care and make sure nobody's post count suffers, except Trevor's, the spamming cupcake.

Hopefully this will be enough for a while, but I'm sure you'll let us know if the 5punk gets sticky again.
