Yes, thats the one. Its a slow-stater, I'll give you that, but once you've gained a few levels and joined a guild or something then it starts to get really good. I personally loved it, played it for many many hours (before I got ecksfire) and I don't think I actually completed the main quest! It may not be to everyones taste, but I know more people that love the series than hate it.
It was maybe a bit more than 20 minutes, I spent a while in the start village, learning to not attack the guards, then got transport to the city which cost all my money. I then got totally confused and lost, and instead of finding the face-puncher's guild I wanted found one that made me go and pick flowers for them. Never did find all their flowers, just strayed too far away and got repeatedly bummed by monsters.

I had bought it with a bunch of other games (Shenmue, PSO) which I was itching to play, so I didn't really put the effort in. It would be interesting to see a review, though - even for the impatient types like me. I think Death Knights of Krynn was the last non-Japanese RPG which I completed.

^this. I utterly adored morrowind, and played it to the point that my character was godlike in practically every way. It is, along with Dungeon Siege, one of the games that got my miss's into computer games on the PC.

This new one is making damp places occur about my person.

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind is actually the game that converted me into the rpg crack whore that I am today. Never went near them before I got that.

I am quivering* with anticipation over Oblivion.

Actually, the amount of time that bit takes to load in Beef means that the initial "EA Games" bit always gives me a little start as I've usually got bored of the black screen and picked up a drink or something.
