Nah, back in the day yes, but now it allows manufacturers to save monies, and retailers to make more profit selling extras. You'd struggle to get a camera with a free mem card now unless it's a deal, they like to make you pay for it.

I forgot to report back on the upscaleyness. It works extremely well on proper DVDs like lotr and star wars but seems pretty dependant on the quality of the source, swept stuff doesn't usually look that great since it emphasises the compression.

That's good, all my DVDs are originals. I've got the player but Play are being utter shite with the order for my TV.

The tv, stand, surround sound deal is on, but the stands are a bit shit imo, I do also hate Polish pallet stackers and southern delivery drivers, but that's another story.

That reminds me, my new TV is great.

37" is just right. The 360 looks superb, although the TV only accepts 1080p via HDMI and my non-elite 360 wont allow that. So I'm stuck on just 720p. Also the Wii looks significantly sharper using a component cable. TV doesn't look that great with a SD signal but it's still bigger and brighter than it was before.

The new 360's are hdmi without being the l33t, just put a pen in your cooling fan, you'll find that if they try and repair it under warranty, it'll keep failing, whilst this an embuggerance with the sending off and the waiting, you will eventually get a new hdmi one.*






*it worked for a mate of mine, but he did have to send his off 6 times.

Now you mention it I think Duke of Ted's new replacement is HDMI. Well my one is making some nasty noises when I put in the Mass Effect disk so it may soon be that time for my console. I just hope it lasts to the end of that game.

Absolutely everyone I have recommended buying one has ended up being extremely pleased with it.

By the way, what was the reason you chose LCD over Plasma?

I'd always go lcd over plasma. You can't lie plasma tv's on their side, you can't push them round the room then turn them on again, you get less viewing angle, you can't hang them above the fire/other heat source, they weigh more and they die faster, I can probably thing of more reasons why I'd always have lcd over plasma, but that'll do for now.


All the cant's above can of course be done, but will fuck up your warranty and your tv.

Never really thought of it like that, mine just sits in the corner of the room on a pedestal on top a corner unit, and it's pretty much viewable from any angle narf.

It is bloody heavy mind you, was a bit fun when we moved house, and it was on the back seat of my car with a friend holding onto it for dear life.

To be fair, it is a rather good tv, panasonic always make good tv's, just that they cost a lot. Plasma can offer a very vibrant colour mix, a lot of lcds, especially cheaper ones, really look washed out when they're not surrounded by other massive tv's in a poorly lit shop.

Plasma has also got a lot better in response to lcd, it's viewing angles and pixellation has increased/decreased respectively and it's aversion to heat sources is less. I still have to advise fools picking tv's up from currys that they can't lie the plasma down without voiding their manufacturers extended warranty.

Today I got a guy picking up a black glass stand, a surround sound kit and a 46" plasma samsung, and he arrived in a toyota mr2, the cupcake.

Fuck yeah! My new TV arrived this afternoon and it's amazing.

1. It's bloody huge (compared to my old telly)
2. The black is extremely black. I can't tell the difference between off and a black screen (the menu background is black, y'see).
3. Normal telly looks really good.
4. DVDs look really good.

Next I tried my new DVD player Vs my old one.

1. I can really tell the difference between tellys now.
2. I'm not sure I can tell the difference between regular DVD and upscaled.

I took pictures of both, but I've lost my cable for my camera. I'll work it out eventually.

This impressed me as well. It becomes evident that the CRT black is sort of dark grey-ish.

Seem to recall that's because they are never really showing black and the light bleeds through from the crt. Where as the per pixel effect of lcd tv's allows for a lot less light to be shining through in the dark bits because it's actively trying to be as dark as possible when necessary, as opposed to passive like on a crt.

How do I complete the 4th level of the menu screen? I'm stuck on the AV source boss, what contrast level do I need to defeat him?

Well there's no need to be rude! I just thought you may not know, and that you might like to. Maybe someone with their sarcasm not turned to 11 might actually read that and learn something, or maybe I'm wrong, and someone will correct me, and I'll learn something, I don't claim to be a professor, as they are defined as 'a person who professes to be an expert in an art or science, teacher of the highest rank', and I made no such claim. And you need a contrast of 42.
