Not sure that's a great idea with a murderer about.Grimmie wrote:Will Thor and Orovan be sleeping al fresco?

Orovan would feel more comfortable being confronted out in the open rather than in an enclosed space filled with things like beds and doors.FatherJack wrote:Not sure that's a great idea with a murderer about.Grimmie wrote:Will Thor and Orovan be sleeping al fresco?
A comfy looking branch it is for me.

I think I'm lodging at the Dwarven inn, and with the bag'o'coppers I just got I'm sure I can pay for a room if you need it.

Re: D&D Adventure #3: Vicious Circle
Thor'll stay at the inn, as he may well be too drunk to do otherwise. He has coin and isn't averse to sleeping indoors, outdoors is just what he's used to.
He's finding he's enjoying the evening a lot more than he expected to, as he hasn't really bothered with the town much other than to sell and resupply. He certainly doesn't see it as odd that's he's in a dwarven tavern and by days in the company of gnomes and half-elves - nobody's ever told him the races tend to stick to their own kind, or sometimes view each other with suspicion. He views people much as he views animals, they may look different, but it's why they do that matters.
He's delighted by Glibberig's song, as he loves stories and appreciates one uses a little dramatic license when telling them, so he doesn't ascribe the Thor in the song's actions to his own, but fancies that perhaps the words were inspired by one of his ancestors, who for some generations have had the name he now bears.

Re: D&D Adventure #3: Vicious Circle
Okay, thanks for being patient guys.
The noise from the bar below Red Beer's rooms doesn't really start to taper off till the wee hours of the morning, but there seem to be a hardcore group of old grey-bearded dwarves who stay down at their table all night, laughing and playing traditional card games.
I'll give you the eight hours sleep required for you to be properly refreshed.
Bits, can you let me know what Orovan's prepared spells for today are?
Also, reading how bards prepare for their day, apparently they perform for 15 minutes after their rest, so now I have an image in my head of Glibberig prancing around his inn room singing to himself while he gets dressed. Teehee.
The inn serves a breakfast comprising mainly of meat; sausages, bacon, lambchops, shredded steak and potatoes served with a "breakfast ale" or water. There is no vegetarian option.
Plans, gentlemen?

Right. So that thing was a dire raven. The other stuff didn't sound raven related though, so I'm wondering if there's either someone summoning these things or turning into them. We could do with someone with wiggly fingers checking up on what spells could do either of those. In the meantime I think I'll take those feathers to that fletcher so see what he makes of them. A long shot, but he might know something. I'll get that arrow we found looked at too.

Breakfast! I might pocket a few bits of meat for raven bait.
If you're going to the fletcher tell him you know me - we're close.

Bo isn't at "Fletcher & Sons" when you arrive, but his father Harold is.
He seems to be sitting on a stool to one side, working over a shiny new arrowhead, easing engravings in to its surface with a few fine-looking tools. He pops the glass goggles that seem to be squeezing his fat head up on to his forehead, red rings around his eyes where the lenses had been sitting.

He examines the feathers carefully, holding them up to the light of the window behind him, turning one of them around in his hands.Harold wrote:A good morning to you, sir!
Harold wrote:These? Ah, yes. Raven feathers, whoppers too. Fiendish sort, probably. They're few and far between, if I'm honest, and I've not seen a set as fresh as these for a while. I might even--
Tell you what, why don't we do each other a favour here? I'll take these feathers off your hands, and I'll get my good son to have a look at your mystery arrows for you. He should be able to tell you what they are by.. Mm.. Tomorrow?
Re: D&D Adventure #3: Vicious Circle
A few spurious rolls for good measure:Shankley wrote:Sounds like a start. How about I give you these and you get your boy to check out these arrows. Then when we find the thing that left them you can have whatever feathers are left intact for half the arrows you use them for.
Appraise (for making sure that's a good deal):
Roll(1d20)+2:
9,+2
Total:11
Diplomacy (for settling the deal):
Roll(1d20)+2:
18,+2
Total:20
Sense Motive (for making sure he's not ripping me off):
Roll(1d20)+2:
15,+2
Total:17
How convenient, all those skills are the same level!

Re: D&D Adventure #3: Vicious Circle
You have no idea how much they're worth (appraise), but you do think he's being genuine with his deal (sense motive).
He offers you a choice of bodkin or broadhead arrows, the former extending the effective range of your bow by 30ft, and the latter giving +1 damage against non or lightly-armoured targets.Harold wrote:Half? Make it a quarter. I'll throw in some special arrowheads, and you've got a deal.
Should get a good dozen for your troubles, if that suits you well?
Re: D&D Adventure #3: Vicious Circle
I'll hand over the feathers and arrows and find the others.Shankley wrote:Sounds fair, I'll take the broadheads. Don't start anything yet, we might not manage to catch the thing.
What now?

Did I have something to track? Was a trail of feathers wasn't it? Can we go there and see if there's anything left to follow.

I think survival/tracking only works over ground, but seeing as you saw the direction the bird flew, and have a vague feather-trail, I'll let you roll for it, and then narrow it down to areas depending on your roll.

!
I was totally expecting to muff that, given the build-up and all.
I'm assuming the rest of the party are now with me, I think Orovan would have needed to show me where he found the feathers.

Judging by the placement of the feathers across town, the direction it was seen flying in, and by the unusual amount of bird droppings (you're pretty sure they match up with the average raven's).. All signs point to Orhedge Library as a nesting site.
The building has a conical roof and a few loose tiles, in fact some of them appear to be missing.
