I'm going to have a look around the apartment to see if there's any clue as to where this thing came from. I'm guessing it's a "gift" of some sort, so if we can find out who sent it then that might lead us to villain behind all this.

You can't find any evidence of where it came from, but you do find a care booklet for it. It looks fairly new, but it's been read a few times.
