Fat bloke wrote:Umm, well I dunno about the dude down the corridor, but the guys who came into my room were weird. They didn't say a lot, just pushed their way in and told me to be quiet. They were big guys, wearing coats over some sort of armour, and they were carrying rifles. I couldn't see their faces either 'cos they had like scarves or something over them. They waited around for a bit and then they opened the door and started shooting. I gotta say, I hid behind the sofa until it all went quiet outside and they'd gone. They left a dead girl though, but the Shivers took her.

I've got a horrible feeling these guys were not just props.

Could you tell if they were well trained, or did they appear more undisciplined? Also do you think you might be able to identify any piece of their armor if I showed you some pictures?
I agree with Joose, I'm getting the feeling that Ordley isn't just a two-bit gun pusher, he seems more likely to be a full on DarkNight op to me, and the guys who ambushed the squad were probably well equipped Converts.

Fat bloke wrote:Er, look I dunno man. They looked like they knew what they were doing to me. What do I know though, huh? An' I didn't see a lot of their armour on account of the coats, but from under the sofa those boots looked like the ones Shivers wear to me. I seen more than a few of those.

Sort of like mine? I know a lot of Shivers wear the same armor. Or perhaps one these?
deej has taken out his oyster and brings up pictures of various DarkNight armors, focusing on the boots.

Dirk wrote:Hmm, maybe it's just me, but something doesn't feel right here. DarkNight ambushing and gunning down a squad of Ops doesn't really seem like their style. I know we're in Downtown, but usually they're a bit more subtle than that. Either this Ordley chap was extremely important like Cutter suggested, or we're looking at something slightly bigger here. We know some DN equipment looks like SLA stuff, but what if the armour they were wearing was Shiver armour?

I'm going to have a look around the apartment then check the room across the hallway.
Detect: 2,5,+8 = 15
Forensics: 10,5,+5 = 20

I'll do some rolls as well to see what I can remember about DN, and anything I might know about Cloak.

SLA info: 4,5,+2 = 11
Rival company: 10,2,+2 = 14

You'd think Cloak would be more overt than this. Internal Affairs are the subtle ones, but that's more of a 'wake up dead' MO. DarkNight might well do an ambush like this though, and it's not unheard of for them to use captured SLA kit. However, any number of minor Soft Companies would use similar equipment and methods.

If Ordley really is a DarkNight op, and 10,000 Rad was getting close, he might have said "Get out of here stalker. Get out of here stalker," and had them taken out or taken some hostages to find out what they knew. I agree it's probably a bit overt for DN, but perhaps they got desperate.

I'll add a SLA info roll to that theory -

Wall Shivers are notorious for having dodgy backgrounds, that's how they got there, and they're also notorious for using black market weapons because the stuff SLA issues is useless against the stuff in the Cannibal Sectors.

Hmmm, it's also just as likely that they were dirty Shivers working with a gun pusher. Either way, they're well armed and not afraid to attack Ops.

Let's check out the other apartment.
Thank you for your cooperation. That is all we need from you.

The other apartment is in a similar state, with a few bullet holes around the door. Poking your AV stalk through a hole you can see someone asleep on the sofa with a small pile of beer cans beside it.

Alternatively, maybe some Shivers were doing something dodgy, and wanted to cover their tracks from some investigating Ops.

wait, anyone get a terrible sense of deja vu there? There's a glitch in the matrix!

Right, let's wake him up. I'll knock on the door and see if the guy wakes.
