State of Play

It was interesting and kept a good flow until it had a generic ending. Russel Crowe was good and Rachel McAdams was cute but the boss was annoying. Finally...Ben Affleck...he's still Ben Affleck...one day in the far future, he might learn how to act.

Step Brothers
Typically silly Will Ferrel stuff about two 30-something guys who still live with their parents and act like kids. Made me do lols on several occasions. For Will Ferrel stuff it fits in my list thus;

Anchorman
Blades of Glory
Step Brothers
Talladega Nights

Marley and Me
Not what I expected. I was thinking it was going to be K9, or Beethoven. A comedy about a dog who trashes everything. It's actually more serious than that, although mildly funny in places. A story of a guy's life, which includes an uncontrollable dog. Reminded me a bit of Click.

Zack and Miri Make A Porno
Zack and Miri aren't together, but they're skint. So they get a few impromtu cast and crew together to make a bad porno to pay things off. Not quite what the title would suggest, in that they produce rather than star in the porno. It has good Kevin Smith dialogue, enough nudity to do justice to the title, and a few decent laughs.

The Hurt Locker (2008)

Another film studying the effects of war on it's participants, like the recent Jarhead and so on. This one focuses on a bomb disposable squad. The bits that involve bomb disposal are very exciting and quite interesting. It slows down when they're not dealing with explosives and general war stuff. I think you're supposed to start caring about the characters during those parts, but I never did. However it's still a very enjoyable film, if a little long. And for me it showed another side of the situation in the Middle East that I hadn't seen much of previously. The movie version of it anyway.

Watched this yesterday afternoon, thoroughly enjoyed it, but the first and last chapters are without a doubt the best. Dark, funny, stylish - Tarantino's hallmarks!
:above: Superb film, easily one of Tarantino's best, the multi-plots tied into the main one (being one of his hallmarks) was done excellently. The violence is also something different, it's sudden and brutal but all with a purpose. It all works and works well. Colonel Hans Landa is a fucking amazing character.

I reckon a 9.5/10.

Basterds? 9.5? Really?

I'd give it a 7, if I was feeling extremely kind.

I'd agree with Berk. It's enjoyable, but nothing amazing. Landa is superb though.

Very agreed, the best Tarantino film after Reservoir Dogs.

Yes, I really enjoyed it. It's entertainment after all and I thought it was really entertaining. As well as having a bit of social commentry about the duality of man.

That's the thing, I thought it was all style and very little substance.

Sure, there was a story there, (well many of them, and the main one) but it all just felt a bit tarantino self-wank, the whole thing really there to tie the violence together.

Overall, I was as entertained as I am by any plot-light all style no substance movie, like XXX and Oceans 1-453, it's not even like the style and (minimal) substance are tied together, so it just feels weird and disjointed.

So yeah, i'm sticking to the 7-ish/10.

That was quite weird. Apparently the actor is South African so I guess it's a quirk of the accent rather than a scouser playing the role.

Very good film though. Neill Blomkamp really knows how to make subtle use of special effects to make them more convincing, rather than piling it on by the truck load. I'm looking at you, Avatar/Transformers/etc?

True to type, the scousers stole their accent.

District 9
Spoiler:
Man gets some alien in him
in a film really not about apartheid, honest. South african accents very good.
Spoiler:
Big stompy robot better.
/mod edit (spoodie)
Seems a bit spoilery to me. However it's open to debate.

This is the first film since Dark Knight I've actively wanted to see. Looks very interesting.

Also, nice avatar. Looks just like you.

There are, and it's as good as it can be.

But if you watch it, you'll understand.

Dead Snow / Dod Sno

Fast zombies who're Nazis. Late teens/early 20's in cabin in a far flung part of Norway.

It's an excellent film of two halves. The first is a serious horror style film which is quite good, the latter half is a bit of a slapstick fest, is rather funny at times and also good. The latter half is very Shaun of the Dead in places.

Definitely worth sinking 88 minutes into.

7.75/10
