If there's no spiders to be found I'll venture in and see what's what.

All right, little bit of indecision on my part, there.
Apart from the obvious dry well funnelled with web there's nothing out of the ordinary in the room, you can't see anything else inside the well.
Bart might be able to shed some light as to the purpose of this room if he ventures down and makes a religious knowledge roll.

I'll be interested to see if anyone's still interested in joining by the end of this story :p Sorry it's a bit slow paced!

Well it's probably slow paced because there's only two of us and one of us is Joose. More people mean more chance of someone progressing the story.

I may create a guy. Fire me the char sheet and I'll drag out the books. AD&D 3.5 yes?

My version of the sheet here:

Does nice maths for you, not as easy for character creation though.
I'll do the flame trick on the webs in the well and get ready to run if it gets all Hollywood in here.

Good choice.
As the webbing inside the well catches fire it quickly spreads to the rest of the room, a great gout of flame and the smell of roasting spiders pouring from the circular hole at the top, lighting the webs across the ceiling. It gets Hollywood, as you put it. You even manage to spot a great big orange centipede crawling over the rim with a flame-cracked shell, flopping lifelessly to the ground as it burns up.
Of course, the whole of the undercroft is now engulfed in acrid black smoke, and billows out of the trap door.

Lets evacuate and take five while the smoke clears. I'll drag Bart along so he doesn't end up like the centipede.
