Whilst you're going astral, Chopper will just be standing there clutching his axe with a grim look on his face. His got grenades in an easy to access pocket should the need arise.

He might well be having flashbacks, but he's not saying much about it.

I've not gone full astral, I'm still in my body and have full control of it.

Frank wrote:Fucking hell, that smell is not good.

Last time I caught a whiff like that I was up in the mountains flushing out some altered cannibal hillbillys. They ambushed a bus full of adventure tourists, diced ad sliced them then buried them in a shallow grave to tenderize.

We caught the weak end of a distress call and went out full horse, by the time we found them it was a few days later and not one had survived. We pulled back and bombed the mountain flat, just wish that was an option here.
Frank wrote:Chopper, you cool?

If anyone wants a butt shout out, I'm having one now because the smell of whatever is ahead plus Lelands spell should mask anything I give off. If you'd all do me a favour and look away from the lighter, we don't want us all blind and unaware.
*reaches for the old zippo and pack of red apples. Closes eyes, sparks up and inhales deeply*

Chopper does not appear to be listening to you - if he had hackles, they'd be well and truly raised. He looks like a mixture of a coiled snake about to strike, and a bull about to charge.

Are we still planning to head straight to the stairwell by the way?

Yeah it's probably the best plan still.

The clean air spell goes off nicely, and the smell is significantly reduced (you can barely smell it now). The detect enemies spell was dead quiet before you dropped it anyway.

Switching into astral shows nothing in the security room, although you have to peek through the gap as the door seems to have that funny aura of its own thats blocking your view.

Chopper grunts and carries on down the corridor.

Heading away from the security room, the smell starts to drop away (you could still smell it a bit even with the spell). Although the corridor is pretty much clear, its obvious from the layer of dust and scraps of rubbish on the floor that no one has been down this corridor in a while.

You make it to the door to the lower level. Its closed, but doesn't seem to have a lock on it.

Is there any sort of key hole or opening in the door? I have an endoscope that can be used for <strike>inspecting colons</strike> peeking into rooms.

If not, I'll have a go at slowly opening the door so that that there's a small crack to look through (hur hur).

Hmm, what are we awakening if we turn the power on?

I was hoping we could break into that security room, but given the crazy bad smell is from there, it may be a bad thing.
Frank wrote:Well, that was easier than expected, next level should be generator and electrical switchboards. Lets head on down and see if we can't light this fucked up place.

If we can do this quietly then good, I've got a hinge chisel, or some plastic always helps. We could just try giving it a push though.
We may just have to give it a push and see what alarms it sets off. Alternative - be wise to have an assault shotgun look through the door first? I can put it through the gap and try and see with the gun camera, less chance of gribblies and the like.

Specifically, I'd like to check for any obvious pointy bits or guns-on-sticks.

Deject: You have an astral peek, but cant see anything alive on the other side of the door. As for guns or pointy things, astral perception really doesn't show you the physical world in any great detail. You can make out that theres stairs down, thats about it.

Roman: theres no keyhole or anything, but theres sufficient gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. Its not like the other doors on this floor, that are all space age slidey airlock doors. This is just a regular door.

Lets just boot the fucker in and see what happens.

Right, I'll have a quick poke with my endoscope, and if it's all clear then the fucker is getting booted down.

Endoscope poked. You see some stairs. Thats pretty much it.
They don't look quite as flash as the wire mesh stairs you came down before, these are clearly service access only. They don't look dodgy or anything, just more functional.

Booting the door makes it open with a bit of a crack, swinging wide and bouncing off the wall. Theres a few moments of silence, then a little *ping* noise as part of the door handle falls off.
