There used to be one in the BF2 controller app thing.

No, sorry Pnut, but it did take about 30 seconds longer than normal just now.

Full uninstall and reinstall of Origin and Beef seems to have done the trick. Strange as it was working fine last night.

Reading that takes me back to that poxy raid in Wrath where we would hear that wipe after wipe...

Anyone getting a taste for certain maps yet?

I seem to notice that the regularly full servers that I see cropping up are the metro and market one - i guess it takes people back to those heady days of throwing unlimited grenades at the start of Kaarkand.

Finally changed guns to a sniper rifle as well. Thought it was gash so swapped straight back next round.

I quite like the open maps, Caspian Border, Kharg Island and Op Firestorm, in Conquest at least. I also like Noshahar Canals in both modes, although it's closer then the others mentioned. Seine Crossing and Davamand Peak are good Rush maps. I don't really have any maps I dislike, although Op Metro is frequently frustrating.

I agree, I haven't come across any maps I dislike, and even Op metro can be fun if you want to rack up some kill points and feel particularly suicidal.

I think the maps are generally underwhelming for such a hugely anticipated game. Lack of flanking routes on rush leads to cluster fucks, how could they get that wrong again? Conquest could just be bigger in general. Yes, it's not that dislike any, I just wish there was more to them and there was slightly more varied modes. Like two bases with various points that give special reinforcements such are air strikes, armour, or global spotting etc. Hopefully the conquest assault that comes with BTK will be a nice change. FPS isn't my favourite genre by any means, but I feel I'll get bored of it once I've unlocked most of the stuff, and just hop on for 5punky goodness.

I've only played a smattering of bacon and haven't played any other multiplayer shooters so maybe what I envisage isn't really a plausible game. Planetside 2 might be what I'm after from the little I know of it.

My main issue with the game is that in nearly all cases you see someone open fire on you 1-2 seconds after they really do, yet the kill command gets set instantly so you appear to die instantly. Or you see them step out in front of you 1-2 seconds after they do with the same result. Ok, maybe that's not the technical reason, and even if there was no lag you'd still die first, but the ultimate feeling is of being cheated and it really breaks me out of immersion.

With regards to the maps, I'd voice my opinion, but people will just roll their eyes due to the fact I'd be complaining again :P

I didn't sleep last night and it was my first day of work today. I'm allowed spelling mistakes. Alright?

Had the same problems again, have found turning of X-fire or steam does the trick. Not sure which one was causing the problem yet but will experiment and find out.

Edit. OK its X-fire that's fucking it up for me.

Is there some anti-XFire game dev cabal going around intentionally inserting xfire related bugs into games at the moment?

Probably due to X-fire's newish owners firing all the original dev team last year and the new team being shit (if there's a substantial team at all).

So much anger in this game... I never was griefed in BF2 you know. I was in CoD but I think that is law.
I am not sure really of retaliation rules.
Do you:
A) do nothing other than laugh to yourself that the other player is probably screaming in a foul mouth rant that could lead to their head exploding
B) play them at their own game by suggesting you have ragged their mother
C) keep it simple and call them a tunc

The guy in question, jihad1 or something similar, obviously could not take the pain of yet another shotgun slug to the face so came up with "Jimmington you are lamer" he then carried on to tell another chap to "go kill yourself in RL"... When chap said "surely that is more applicable to yourself with your name", it seemed to rile him even further, with him missing the irony of it all.
I am trying to enjoy the game, but i am losing my grip on it, it's just not grabbing me. I think I am only playing it to avoid the wife *to be honest* /inyourfaceautotext

With regards to the players, there truly are some 14 year old kids on it.

Fab will testify as to what happened last week with some twat calling me a motherfucker and telling me to shutup in squad chat after Fab and I simply said hello to each other before going on to then tell me I'm a dickhead, a retard and I should kill myself after I pointed out he was being rude and that by his own actions, he was the dickhead.
Granted, I got bored pointing out I'd done nothing wrong and just started counter trolling, which admittedly became amusing when they started TK'ing me without knowing the server rules (they dun got kicked yo).

As for the game, I think I'm going to ease off playing it with non-5punkers until the patch hits next week (or so). Now that everyone and their mum has unlocked the IRNV scope you're at a massive disadvantage if you don't use it (or like me, are trying to hit 100 kills for each gun, so don't have access to it yet for the most part). Plus there's loads of tweaks coming in for weapon buffs/nerfs, flashlight changes, possible foregrip changes etc...

I have not used that, but I am guessing that is the scope that makes everyone bright yellow. Does seem a bit OTT.
The biggest thing I have noticed is that there are a billion engineers and not a lot else really, but like you say there is a lot of finger crossing that things will be evened up. The main one being given recon some tools to kill something other than people.
I think the other thing is the maps feel cramped, I think that is why the shotty gets such good results, with a map the size of a gnats cock you invariably end up in someones face most of the time.
For the time being I will enjoy it for what it is. A polished console shooter with nice pics. All I need now is to hide the chat box and ignore the public. They should do it like WoW I.e leave a channel but keep squad chat open.
