Actually it's a subtle hint that you might want to read your orders. And here's me who doesn't do hints.

Transmitted orders before the patrol:

Code: Select all

---FAO: Squad Leader, Operatives Squad Five Punk---
---Transmission origin: VickersG4B6 Karma---
---Attachment: FAC62GLILAC4CIDICT_NAVA
---Message text: Commence patrol route at 231900L10902. Route waypoint coordinates attached for Navamap. Observe and report hostile personnel, engage at squad discretion. No friendly horses in area. No support available. Extraction at laboratory facility 62G and await further instructions. Interaction with planet’s flora is to be strictly kept to a minimum, care to be taken with firearms. Enviro-suits mandatory, carried equipment to be sterilised prior to egress.---
---Message end---
---Transmission end---
Audio message found at probe site:
Squad. You have obtained evidence to be returned to the lab facility upon completion of your patrol. Hand it to the facility staff for testing. This message chip must be replaced in the storage canister and the balloon activated where it will return to origin. You will tell the facility staff that a ten man DarkNight patrol was encountered and defeated, and that these items were recovered from the bodies as objects of potential interest. The coordinates of the battle has been marked for recovery by orbital staff. No evidence of the location of enemy facilities was found.

I thought you lot did turn over the evidence, seeing as it was the card and the ration packs.

I'd personally be more concerned about the specific orders stating that you didn't find the base though, which you've fluffed by pretending to go out and clear it, even going as far as saying you needed the keycard to get in.

Well since you're all at a loss and tentatively hanging on to see if you've blown it, I'll fast forward about 12 hours. Shelton finds you to tell you that you have a message waiting. Assuming you go to his office to read it;

Code: Select all

---FAO: Squad Leader, Operatives Squad Five Punk---
---Transmission origin: VickersG4B6 Karma---
---Message text: Research mission to be ceased prematurely. DarkNight equipment causes risk of successful facility staff mutiny and compromise of surface to be unacceptable. Squad is to maintain order and prevent unauthorised departures for duration of tour. Reasonable horse may be used as a last resort, but firearms are prohibited due to risk of hull breach and surface contamination.---

Righto, stop some geeks leaving, that I think we can handle. Theres only one door, So I suggest us big/fighty types (me, Eraser and Brainrot) sit in the airlock and tell people to fuck off.

Don't we *want* them to leave though? The messages we're getting are only portraying that our cover is real.
I say we confiscate the bio-suits, saying they can't leave, but don't actively guard the airlocks?

Maybe, I think we should have someone outside pretty much at all times, rotating them about to keep watch in case they do try and escape. I am not sure if making it look like we're supposed to keep them here is part of the subterfuge or not.

Either way, I'd like to get back in my armor and see if it's possible at all to do some snooping. I'd like to see if I can set up my mini-cams in a position to watch Cross and Shelton's offices or workspaces discreetly so we can monitor them. Any rolls I need to make?

Fair point. Shout at them a lot, take away thier suits, then all sit about in the lift acting smug?

Call it a hide roll. It's not really designed for that, but it's the closest we've got.

I think it is. Look at it this way, whats more likely:

A) They told us to set up this crazy subterfuge to lure the cult nutters out of the lab into sunny foliage filled death, and this is a continuation of that plan taking into account our slightly fluffing the original plan.

or

B) They told us to set up this crazy subterfuge to lure the cult nutters out of the lab into sunny foliage filled death, and then felt bad about it and decided to let them live after all. Also, they decide to communicate this desire to us in such a way as to not make it obvious they have changed thier minds.

Dont forget this is SLA we are talking about.

If we are genuinely keeping them from leaving, we should herd them all into the space-lift and not take our eyes off them till we get pulled into orbit. Also, we should totally keep them the hell away from those experimental stormer jobbies. I dont trust them at all. If we are carrying on the subterfuge, we need to play up the inept overconfident ops angle. Shouldnt be too hard to pretend to be shit at our jobs.

Don't need to pretend really, we just messed up a simple order real bad.

Anyway, I think we should carry on with the original order unless we get a clear cease and desist form. Remember, we're not talking about killing all the research staff, just the suit and that arrogant asshole. :P

I think Eraser should do a big stompy (unarmoured) patrol of the airlocks, so its obvious when he isnt at one.
