Two other horrorish films that look quite good, Shutter Island (Martin Scorcese film) and The Road (based on a book by Cormac McThing, bloke who wrote No Country for Old Men).

Transformers: Revenge of the fallen
Visceral, explodey goodness. Battle sequences slowed down slightly so you can see what's going on this time.
Hot protagonist girlfriend still in film, still looking lovely. Comic relief in the form of sterotyped black-gangsta autobots are very grating.
If you want a no-brainer shooty shooty bang explosion film, go see this.

Quarantine (2008)
This is a remake of a spanish flick REC (2007) which has better rating than the US one. This one has Dexter's sister as the reporter.
Its compared to the other shaky camera films, Blair and Clover, which I haven't seen.
I thought it was pretty decent. It ended kinda meh...but, whatever. Overall, I liked it. Fast paced, scary/mystery, and violent. Oh, did I mention.... ?

Defiance (2008)
Starring the lastest James Bond-Daniel Craig and the brother is Sabretooth from Wolverine.
Based on a true story on how some of the Jewski's survived the Nazi invasion.
Two movies in a row I liked....can you believe it???
Well acted, well paced....and dead nazi's.

Both of the above.
Grabbed the film [Rec] because it was a weird name, never actually watched it.
Blair witch was just snotty noses and shrieking. Cloverfield, everyone seemed to pan it because you didn't see the monster, I must have watched a different version because I did. Could have been better mind.

Yeah you do see it at the very end. It's not all that scary really, and it's not supposed to be. I like the way Cloverfield was shot actually. Yeah it was mostly impossible to watch shaky-cam, but it fit what was going on, i.e.: trying to record while running from monsters and all that.HereComesPete wrote:Blair witch was just snotty noses and shrieking. I disliked Coverfield, I do appreciate just what the director was trying to do, but excessive shaky cam just made it painful and difficult to watch.
Not to mention I have an issue with the scripting at places. Mostly down to it being a survival horror and after being attacked multiple times, they kept throwing the weapons away every time. Which seemed forced in order to make them run rather than fight. That just didn't gel and ruined the realistic edge that the director was trying to put on to the film, as people just wouldn't do that.

I've just decided I don't like the shaky cam. I kind of liked Cloverfields, I wanted to like Diary of the Dead, and I appreciate that it's fashionable at the moment. The thing is, all shakycam can try to achieve is a sense that it's real footage an therefore add realism to a film. The problem is that we all know it isn't real, and it narrows your field of view so much it makes it difficult to enjoy the story. So it kind of fails from both ends.

How many city destroying monsters you run from buzz? You feel you wouldn't throw a weapon away, who's to say someone wouldn't be so afraid of using it wrong that they couldn't bear to carry a firearm? Or hated killing anything at all no matter how desperate the situation?buzzmong wrote:as people just wouldn't do that.
Granted it is a bit contrived the way the do it, but I think that's just the no name actors.

hmm...I haven't seen the 2 shaky cam movies...but as far as Quarantine goes...it wasn't that shaky. Yes, it was a reporter and a camerman the whole time...but not shaky...a bit of panning though but not annoyingly so...cuz I wished he would have panned more so I could see to the side. But that played well with the scare tactics.
Really, the point of view (like some porns) was perfect for this movie. Of course, it would have better if the reporter was super hot running around in a thong...

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen
Went to see this earlier on today. Pretty meh to be honest, no doubt if you saw and liked the first you'll like this.
Personally I found it to be about 45 minutes to long, painfully slow moving at times, overly predictable (I guessed the entire story give or take a few details 15 minutes in) and at times it's painful to watch the Transformers being utterly retarded (A pair of retard twins and some well placed mousetraps!!).
Some genuinely good scraps in it and a few parts that were very well done and like Grim said very very shooty and very very bangy.
I don't think I'd be too fussed if I never saw it again.
