same here, after failing to get military documents several times

but i'm still enjoying it and finding it quite atmospheric. The first encounter with humanoid mutants made me do a poo!

why are people doing the random side quests? unless you're getting some artifact or gun that you can't get another way there is absolutely no point to doing them. the main storyline quests are pretty much bug free and the side quests are irrelevant. (Except the "find the family rifle" one, you can pick up the Big Ben in the area, and it kicks major ass.

I'm guessing because without the side quests, the game would be linear and not free-form. :)

I guess so, but I A) don't need the money and B) don't have the time to waste on them. I'm al about story driven games so I'll just ignore those side quests unless they're actually interesting. The side quests just seem too much like the ones in freelancer: go there shoot that bring something back shoot something else blah blah blah.

Horses for courses isn't it? Most people would probably like to experience as much of the game as possible, but if Deej doesn't like to lose focus then he can choose not to do them. Personally I found that I was compelled to do all the side quests in Oblivion and I got tired of it before I'd got to the second gate thing, so maybe I'd do better to avoid some of the more mundane side quests and maybe play them again later.

For me, even just following the main story quest gives me lots of varied stuff to do. It just doesn't seem like I need to bother with them. whatever.

OK. I thought it was getting pretty average until I ran the X18 lab. Never been this scared by a game before, even FEAR which was a bit like 'lol I'm meant to be scared here'. This has got me shitting myself, which is annoying cos I'm running out of ammo and keep shooting my own shadow.

Sick of puny stashes? You need to find mine.

Everything a man could ever need. About 60 medkits (of varying flavour), 30 bottles of vodka, a couple thousand rounds of ammo, a change of clothes or two, meat products, a bunch of different guns, and assorted shiney things.

Framerate may suffer a bit though.

after finally getting the game (thank you dog pants) i found stalker to be very hard, even on novice. but after playing for some time, and acquiring my first submachine guns, i'm already proving to be a bit better. i had no genuine scary moments yet, since i didn't encounter any mutants so far. not that i want to, mind. the inaccuracy of the guns is sometimes a bit annoying, but i suppose it gets better once you get some decent rifles. the random spawning groups of bandits piss me off to no end though. had to spend an entire clip to nail one of them, only to walk into a group of 10 more. :x

The game has only got better and better for me, but I'm not all that far in, so it might not continue like that.

As for the difficulty, it does get much easier. You start getting used to how the guns work, and just as you're becoming competent with them you come across better ones which make it even easier.

If what we're saying is typical of people's reactions then I suspect spawn times will be adjusted in a future patch.

You might just want to spend 5 minutes clearing the groups properly.

Often they'll respawn at full-horse when you re-enter the map if you don't kill the whole group.

Oddly, the game seems to get easier as you go through it.

Got my hands on the ak74 a couple of days ago, was a bit better, got a scope for it yesterday, and christ, it becomes SOOO much easier. Single tap headshots left and right.

I do like the stash in the Wild Territory with a funky suit even if it's in a high rad area and all you've got in a light stalker suit.

Oh, and I'm being stalked by SOMETHING in the Rostok Wild Territories, cleared out all the people, but keep seeing glances of a mutant. Seems brown, person height, kinda skinny yet bulky in places, and quite quick. I've got the whole funky atmosphere going on there, and I'm loving it!
