Yep hence "drivers" rather than drivers. I still have nightmares of the time before that option was available. I have an old 15GB 3G iPod (spiced up by Colorware), and it's served me pretty well over the time I've had it. The hard disk is starting to go now, but the main annoyance is that it won't charge over USB - Firewire only (not an issue with newer iPods). On one occasion it totally died, but I took it to the Apple Store (within walking distance of my old apartment) and they sorted it on the spot, despite the warranty obviously having been voided. I've never used iTunes to sync it, so that's not a problem. I used to use ephpod, but now Winamp will do it (which is great, because Winamp has been my music player of choice for about a decade).
Would I get another iPod? Yes, but I'd also consider the Zune and possibly stuff from other companies too.

my 2 cents
despite most techy people seeming to hate them, i have never had much trouble with the 2 ipods i've owned. itunes can be a pain sometimes, especially when version 7 came out and it was VERY buggy. however i find it perfectly useable software
having said that though, i have never used anything different and if people on here say zen then thats robably a good choice
also, on the subject of the itrip, i got one with my first 3g ipod and it was pretty damn good, even survived a trip through the washing. However i had to get a different one for the 5g video ipod becuse the old on connects to the headphone remote jack, which the new ipods don't have and the new itrip is far weaker and has to be right net to the aerial to be any good, and the signal is easily blocked out by other local signals meaning you need to find a station that is completely blank to use it on (which i guess is why they are now legal)

Not anymore. This was iirc scuppered a few months ago due to lots of people wanting to use their ipod's and stuff in their car.The Incredible... wrote:yea but in the UK it is illegal to broadcast a strong radio signal, so the ones over here are pretty weak. mine is easily overpowered by even weak stations
I think there was a threshold imposed as part of the law regarding power and distance.
I would dig up the link but I really can't be arsed as I've got to water the garden and clean my car.

Gotta recommend the iPod, if you don't mind using iTunes there's no better mp3 player out there really.
And for listening in the car/lorry this is an awesome little device:
Belkin Charger/radio-transmitter.

Probably cheaper in other places, but a friend of mine had that little beasty and it worked so well, tempted to get one myself.
