Actually the console is designed to be put on it's side or horizontal. I believe the problem occurs when you try to move the console from one position to the other while the disk is spinning. Apparently it will make a very nasty sound and probably damage the disk.

edit: having now read the thread I see that is what is says on the first post. :faint:
