There's Service Level Agreements in these games?! This is Serious Business.

Never likely to happen, so I'm trying to do the next best thing. I'd love an Oblivion (or maybe Hellgate London) style game in this setting. Or an MMONG with a 7200km2 city full of NPCs.

OK, I'm downloading the rule book right now, and I'll have a look at the character creation.

also, would anyone like me to mirror it so you don't have to register with the website and all that jazz?

Is that legally ok? I know it's a free download, but you can still buy the rulebook. Mind you, the game manufacturer asked for it to be made free so they can gather interest for the next edition so they probably wouldn't mind.

I've read the new sourcebooks now and if it looks ilke this'll take off I'll start writing some missions for us. In the meantime I'll put up a more detailed description of what people can play and about the game world, and if people create characters I might make each a writeup of what their characters would know about the world. That way it'll make it easier to get used to the way things play, as it's very different from Dungeons and Dragons (think more 1984, Brazil, Bladerunner, Fifth Element etc.).

This is not legal advice, but doing so would most likely not be legal, unless they've expressly told you that you can do so. (Whether or not you can still buy the rulebook doesn't matter).

However...

:above: This.

I would play, but I've totally outgrown my beardiness.

5punk wouldn't be incurring any legal risk, just me. In any case I'm not going to publicize that I'm hosting it, just prod me if you want it.

I'll have a got at making a character today.

Deej had a go at making a character earlier, which reminded me that it can be a bit daunting at first. I'm available on Xfire to help out though and I'm putting together a Wiki page at the moment to describe the main elements of the game, the characters you can play, and hopefully a FAQ.

EDIT: Oh yeah, sorry I went AFK Deject. I got dragged away at short notice.

Yeah, but a lot of it's story and pictures.

I've started a Wiki page. It's not even nearly complete but the bits I've written should start filling in the gaps as I go along.

My character is mostly made, I just have to sort out equipment, and the rulebook is just a bit fucking retarded. Still It's a fairly easy process once you get to the real info in all that role-playing mumbo jumbo.

edit: oh yeah, and some lightning knocked out my internets, which is why I disappeared...

remarkably common in RPG land. I remember second edition Shadowrun's rulebook, it was like they had laid it out at random. It was somewhat like this:

making a character

1)look at "making a character", page 32
2)find out how many skill points you can have, page 33
3)find out the actual skills, page 120
4)calculate your initiative, page 57
5)work out how much money you have left, page 84
6)buy your equipment, pages 250-270
7)buy yourself a place to live, page 9
8)choose contacts, page 54-56

and if you wanted your character to do magic, that was all in pages 180-200, if you wanted it to be a hacker, that was on page 138, etc etc

(actual page numbers made up as I cant be arsed to find them out. you get the point though.)

As for the rulebook being big; the vast majority of it is background info, the actual "rules" bit is dead easy. And anyway, like I said, I played my first D&D session blissfully unaware of the rules, as the DM worried about all the numbers for me. I knew what my character was good and bad at, that was all I needed to know.

Well if anyone's feeling daunted by the rules they can give me a guideline on what they want to play and I'll do it for them. First few missions will be milk runs so that people can get the hang of it (including me, I'm probably a bit rusty).

ME: I purchase milk!
YOU: Roll for initiative!
ME: OMG POONED
YOU: you successfully buy milk. Have some XP.

not what you mean?

You go to purchase semi-skimmed, but the DM successfully rolls a save and you left facing a row of thick, disgusting FULL FAT MILK!!!

Run or Buy?!?!?
