Pfffft.
Well I played a tiny bit of this, but I'll wait until my 6800 arrives so I can run it a bit better and then give it a proper attempt. Also, I need to wait till I have a desk to actually put my PC on too. And an internet connection for the patch.

Yes I am. It just pisses me off how after all this hype, time and new technologies all they could come up with was a short, mediocre and rushed game that plays and looks like a pathetic xbox port from 3 years ago. Like I pointed out in my quick review the AI is incredible and thats about the games only good point. How in the name of all holy and muslim artifacts was it cleared for release to the public I will never understand. Shifting over to DX10 and spending just a few more months polishing the missions and bugs could and probably would have put it in the top5 of my fave games evar. Sadly though im filing it next Doom3, GRAW, Quake4 and Prey. They all had oodles of promise but ended up falling miles short.
As for Crysis well It looks pretty, it has aliens, Koreans and hopefully great AI.

He may have a point though, if everyone is saying they don't want to play through again to catch up to where they were saved, surely that means it's not that enjoyable? In contrast, I could play through Half Life 2 any number of times.
Not quite - I said I didn't want to start it again. Once I've beaten it I hope I'll be happy to do the beginning again so I can do things differently through the game, but so far I've only done the first mission (twice) and it took me ages, so I'm not in a rush to do it again.
As for Chicken's feelings towards it, I can understand that. I was expecting something worse than the released game, as most over-hyped games are, and so I'm not disappointed. In fact from what I've heard I think I'll be pleased with it. He was expecting the Best Gaem Evar(TM), and was bitterly disappointed. Ah, the impetuousness of youth - one day you'll be a cynical bastard like me Chicken (especially in your line of work)

I agree, I'm expecting Crysis to be as average as Far Cry was. In fact the only game I can say I'm not expecting to feel disappointed by is Quake Wars.

Stalker 1.0003 patch
Apparently the savegames from 1.0001 will work with this.

Overall, the new 1.0003 patch contains 31 bug fixes and improvements, including a fix for users of 16:9 wide-screen monitors, changes to the game's AI, and multiplayer latency reductions. Stability has apparently been improved, with six different types of crash-related issues as well as "various crashes" pertaining to the game's dedicated server now fixed.

what does this one fix? Yesterday I found my first proper bug on my way back to the trader having got through the underground lab and discovered the dudes from the very first mission waiting for me to help kill the car park bandits and I can confirm it is a whole crapload easier with good armour and huge fuckoff guns

Code: Select all
Saved games.
Saved games from 1.0001 version will work with 1.0003 version.
Connectivity.
Connecting to the server will be possible only if the host's version of the game is the same as yours.
The patch addresses the following changes:
* Added some textures of certain objects (for technical purposes).
* Added console command 'sv_listmaps' to view the list of maps queue.
* Added the support for additional mouse buttons (now they can be bound to certain actions).
* Fixed bugs with player's character health bar in Multi-player.
* Fixed the crash upon making the screenshot to a saved game.
* Fixed the bug with standing dead bodies upon connecting to the game.
* Fixed inventory items placing system (Free for all and Team play modes).
* Fixed the enumeration of the game's version.
* Fixed the crash with using Numpad in some localizations.
* Fixed the crash on the level "Military warehouse".
* Fixed the crash while idling on the pause menu
* Fixed the crash in dialog with Professor Sakharov on the Yantar level.
* Fixed the storyline task "Meet with the Guide", now you can get it by searching Ghost's corpse.
* Fixed the bug with NPCs spawning in front of the player.
* Fixed the A-life reaction time. Now A-life spawns new NPCs more seldom. Also NPC movement speed is decreased when NPC are on different level then the player.
* Binary files are now compiled with large address aware flag that supports up to 3GB address space (relevant for Windows VistaT users).
* Added the possibility to record/play the camera fly-around ('demo_record'/'demo_play' commands). Now Stalker is ready for benchmarks.
* Fixed aspect ratio 16/9. Now the owners of the widescreen displays will have the benefit from greater viewing radius.
* Fixed various crashes with dedicated server.
* The network packets have been merged. This will make the ping reduce twice or more.
* The correctness of map name is now verified when changing the map using the console.
* Fixed the dragging of dead bodies by monsters.
* Now dumps will be saved upon the game crashes.
* Fixed the in-game patching system for all localizations.
* Fixed the problem with the exceedingly long players' names.
* Fixed textual problems for 16/9 video format.
* Fixed game freezing upon trying to connect to a different version.
* Fixed binocular Spectator crash.
* Fixed non-existent grenade launcher firing.
* Fixed players turning invisible when reduced to a minimal amount of health.
* Fixed pre-selected skin not allowing for player spawn.

Hurrah for additional mouse buttons being useful. Was a minor irritation when I couldn't bind my two thumb-buttons to anything.
Anyone actually tried the multiplayer of this yet, or is it a bit of a non-starter?

Mine didn't work after the first patch, it claimed I was running the wrong version. I'm hoping this will fix it or a reinstall might be in order.

anyone fancy a bash some time?
also, why do you have 2 thumbs on your mouse hand? Are you taking the whole Chernobyl thing a bit far?

Yup. I was disappointed to have been born without deformities* and so have grafted a second thumb onto my right hand. That, and I have a MX510.
I certainly fancy giving it a go, but am still running a floorware version for now.
*Unless you count a tiny penis as a deformity.
