I had that problem also. I went for a lian-li pc6070, took about 3 weeks to get.

Heatpiped mobos are ok i think. mine came with a fan as well just in case though.

Unfortunately, it depends on the heatpipe, how long it is, and how hot the chip it's cooling is.

Some chipsets will be fine upside down with heatpipes not working quite right.

Others (680i springs to mind) will cook flesh even when the heatpipe is the right way up and the extra fans on it

I'd be inclined to go with dan on this, he's pretty reliable and we'd've heard more if P5Ns cooked when mounted upside dow.

An A05, nice. Where abouts did you get it from? I'm after an A16 and didn't really want to use OC again.

The reference 680i mobos are approved for upside-downy use.

How the hell do these people keep their cases so tidy? Even with round-section IDE cables and a massive case mine still looks like a bird's nest.

I got the gonk from http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk they have the a16 but not the a05

the site looks a little iffy, but i've bought loads from them and the service is good.

Got a quick and helpful response when I emailed them, more than I can say for overclockers.

But then I've read 2 separate threads stating that people have cut open Asus heat pipes and they were solid copper rather than the liquid cooling. If it was liquid it would be more of an issue as presumably the liquid would pool at the cooler, lower CPU area and not reach the hot southbridge?

Isn't it that the pipes fins are arranged in a U shape around the CPU and as heat rises when mounted "upside down" the heat dissapated by the pipes goes back towards the CPU?

With enough fans to get decent airflow, I can't see how it's much of a problem, just seomthing to keep an eye on as you're building it, adding extra cooling if it looks like temps are higher than they should be.

If it was liquid surely it'd be full for maximum heat transfer? To have it sloshing around inside with an air gap seems like a waste of time as it'd be less efficient wouldn't it?

It has to have space for the liquid to heat up, evaporate to gas so it rises to the fins, dissipates the heat, turns back into a liquid and flows back the hotter area.

Don't like the look as much as the other one but at least this will prevent any potential upsidedown heatpipe problems.

Yeah, I wanted a sqaure black thing with as little 'detail' as possible.

I still really like my Coolermaster Wavemaster but wanted something smaller and more simple this time.

Yup, I do like plain cases, or at least not too shiny/full of lights

I like the fact that you get an angel view of the case!
