I think it's going to need a new PC for me. I didn't actually get around to playing it, downloading and installing the patch has taken up the last two evenings respectively, but from the jerkiness of the title screen, it's going to be annoying without more horsepower.
Oh, I fixed some of the links in the wiki, too.

I just installed it and had a quick bash at the first campaign mission (although bloody xfire doesn't pick it up, again). It's very pretty, and feels just loke Flashpoint. It's also bloody hard. My first ten minutes:
Start game, ordered to move to location, run towards location, Hummvee in front of me gets blown up, I die.
Start game, run along away from Humvee with rest of squad, shoot at some bloke, wonder if I hit him, get shot from somewhere else by an MG.
Start game, run along with squad, squad gunner kills some bad guys, withdraw with squad, get shot by unseen enemy rifleman.
Making progress then

Gotta stop thinking like BEEF
Soon as you hear the first crack and thump drop to the ground, crawl or role a little way then pop up to scope or sight the target with your binos. You can right click to 'indicate' the target to your squad and they'll open fire automatically. If you hold space and left click the target (icon changes) you'll order them to engage - your guys will break formation and cover each other as they move into an engagement position. Careful they don't get outflanked while they do it though and call them back into formation if they get to spread out.
The best method I've found is to set your guys to combat mode 'danger' (select all, 7 on the comd menu, then 1 iirc) then go prone (they should go prone too) at the first sign of trouble. If you use your binos to indicate all the targets for your dudes, their combined fire of MG, snipers and UGL's will deal with the hostiles at range, and the the assault guys with M16's will deal with the enemy who get too close. Get your medic to move back into cover so you can order people to heal if they get injured. If you have no decent cover, bung lots of smoke about and withdraw sharpish.
If anyone want a Frizzy speshul tactics bumming sesh online sometime gimme a poke on XFire.

I've been trying this out this afternoon and whilst I really want to like it, it has to be the most frustrating game evar.
I'm all for a challenge, but good god, this game is bordering on the farcical. The missions are absolutely nails in the first case, but combine that with the Gunslinger-esque accuracy of the enemy and I just end up with save>reload madness.
It's driving me bloody mad
That said, I'll still have a crack at Co-Op if someone wants to organise one; the general dynamics of the game seem quite good (regardless of the 5 second delay on moving your aim).

Exactly why my copy is going back to the shop ASAP.Sheriff Fatman wrote:I've been trying this out this afternoon and whilst I really want to like it, it has to be the most frustrating game evar.

That'll be the floating area thing, go into control options and turn that right down and it'll work like other FPSes.Sheriff Fatman wrote:(regardless of the 5 second delay on moving your aim).
I swept this to see if it was worth buying, I've decided it isn't. 90% of the time I cant see the enemy and all of a sudden I just die. The rest of my squad is busy shooting at stuff while I'm standing there trying to actually see what they're shooting at.
Then there's the fact that it runs like crap considering the graphics are nothing special. This game seems to be a very extreme case of being released before its finished.

It's not like BEEF - your commander will be calling targets that should be highlighted. Later in the game you'll be the commander and you'll be spotting targets with binoculars for your squad to shoot at. A Quake blast-a-thon it ain't, it's a simulator. Not to many tastes, but as with Op Flashpoint it's pretty gripping once you learn to play it.
This is all an assumption based on Flashpoint, as I'm still well rusty and doing crap myself.

Maybe I just played alot of Flashpoint, but I found ArmA very easy
I completed the campaign in one sitting pretty much. Do I have a different game or something? And sure, there's a few bugs in the release but they've already ironed out a lot of those. Nothing incomplete about the build either that I can see. Ho hum, whatever floats yer boat. I'll be whacking them T72's in my harrier if you want to come play
You're a bit of a Flashpoint nut so it's not too surprising. Compared to most shooters it's very different - less snap shots and reflexes and more spotting and sniping. Spotting the enemy is tricky when you're used to them only being 50m away, and hitting them is hard when you're not used to the sights and bullet drop. It comes with practice though, and the multiplayer is a lot less frustrating because you can just respawn. If only the spawn point wasn't so far away...

I am still on the the solo missions and I am finding it almost impossible to complete any of them. For example: the sniper mission on the water tower where you are expected to take out two truck loads of enemies. The briefing (which is vague, at best) states you should snipe as many foes as you can and then fall back for extraction. After a few failed attempts at killing them all before they manage to snipe me with support weapons, I decided to pepperpot them back to extraction, thinking that, as a sniper, getting as many as I could and escaping alive would be enough, apparently not; I have to tag them all. It's bloody daft. I don't know any snipers that would consider that a reasonable objective.Dog Pants wrote:It's not like BEEF - your commander will be calling targets that should be highlighted. I know it's not Beef. I appreciate that and have really tried to play it as such, but it really is just too hard. There is no fun in playing a game where the only way to learn is reloading twenty times on each mission (and in my case to find that mission bugged and requiring a complete re-do)
As I say, the game dynamics are full of potential, but as a playable game, it's laughable.
The Co-Op might be great but I'll be buggered if I going to pay for a half finished game that only works for half of its intended purpose.

Odd about your performance Berk, I'm not having any problems at all and it looks far nicer than BEEF. As for the difficulty, I didn't have any problems with the sniper mission but I did struggle with the covert ops one so I skipped it. It is a tough game (although there are difficulty levels that can be changed), and it's definitely not for everyone though. As Berk said, hopefully some patches will sort out some of the bugs. Incidentally, PCG gave the game 70% because of some mission-breaking bugs. From the write-up I suspect it would have got another 10% if it wasn't for this.
