I have heard bad things about the Hiper type R 580W, I would reccomend one of these: http://www.wired2fire.co.uk/product_inf ... 4d0e37b296

All reviews say it is very stable, but maybe not so quiet.

Even further investigation has come up with more horror stories on changing the power supply in my HP XW6000.

I think it's dual PSU time :shock:

I'll post a pic of the horrendous monstrosity afterwards, providing I don't electricute myself in the process

just a thought, wouldnt a new PSU need some form of connection to the motherboard?

Another option would be to also replace the motherboard with a standard ATX one, although that can cause as many problems as PSU is causing.
