Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
Cheers for that mate. I am using a guide from here at the minute.
Re: The Miniatures Project Thread

Finally finished one of my Spack Marines. The dude on the right is finished, the dude on the left has been base coated and washed. For a first attempt I'm pretty chuffed with how its turned out, the highlighting and basing is a bit shoddy but they are both things that I have never done before. Once I have finished the other two part done minis I'm going to have a crack at building and painting a assault squad.

Not bad at all that, nice work.

Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
Can you take a better picture Pnut? It's hard to make out some of the shading and highlighting.

Nicely done then. The highlighting on the pauldrons looks pretty good.

Not watch it all yet but what I have seen seems very helpful. Also I'm thinking about getting one of those stands, I don't have the most stable of hands when doing fine detail work.

Oh god yes, Helping Hands are very very handy.Pnut wrote:Also I'm thinking about getting one of those stands, I don't have the most stable of hands when doing fine detail work.
Also, I too suffer from shaky hand syndrome when doing fine details, best tip I ever got was to either put something like a couple of bricks (something sizable and heavy that wont move) on my desk to brace my wrists against and put my elbows on the desk, or lower my chair and brace my wrists on the edge of the desk.
Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
Thanks for that vid pnut, thats probably the most comprehensive single video of a blood angel paint I've seen. Jawa Bawls is good but his videos are nowhere near as good quality or as easy to see as this is. Just watching him makes me realise that these guys don't sweat the small stuff, I constantly try and get paint from edge to edge or on the sides of raised icons/details, he doesn't seem to be too bothered about it.
Also, thanks Buzz - I'll be investing in one of those stands too. I'm a tad shaky too.

Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
Does any one have any recommendations for storage/carry cases for minis?
Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
I use Feldherr cases. There's a good variety of sizes and inserts, they're not too expensive, and they're good quality.
Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
Cheers Doggers, that's what I was looking for.
If anyone is looking at doing conversions this video will be handy.

Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
Yep, I do that. I've yet to find a pin vice that grips the bit properly though.

Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
I too have done pinning in the past. I found it slightly easier to rough up paperclips with some sandpaper before I used them, mostly because it helps the glue stick a bit better.
Is that the first time you've come across pinning Pnut?

Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
I've heard of it but never seen it or done it before.
Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
I mentioned the other day that I was modding a landspeeder storm to resemble Ecto 1.
Well, here's the progress I have made so far.

The camera flash is covering some sloppy work on the side of those shotguns, I need to get in with my fine detail brush and tidy that up, also need to highlight the seats.

As you can see I am struggling with the white. This is skull white and it doesn't seem to have the consistency to be used as a base coat. This is after 3 layers and it still looks shabby and not at all a solid colour. Any advice? (not using spray paint again and I can't afford a paint gun)

Re: The Miniatures Project Thread
A lot of the old colours had that problem. That's why I use white undercoat. I think you can buy some transparent stuff which thickens it.

Ah, may I ask why not? I've found acrylic sprays from Halfords tend to work well as basecoats.Anery wrote: As you can see I am struggling with the white. Because I don't have anywhere I can do it and I've had problems spraypainting stuff in the past and making a pigs ear of it.buzzmong wrote:Ah, may I ask why not? I've found acrylic sprays from Halfords tend to work well as basecoats.
