This isn't entirely true. Sony haven't said "No". They just don't want to advertise it as a selling point; whereas HD-DVD are happy for anyone to use any excuse to sell their stuff.

Sony originally seemed to be saying no to Pron as it wasn't advertising it, but after these came out; they released something saying they weren't going to ban it. I think they realised this was one of the key mistakes made in the VHS-Betamax competition.

So what has the PS3 got that makes it attractive? Surely both platforms have a very limited range of worthwhile titles at the moment and the PS3 isn't even out in this country yet.

Don't forget Xbox Live Arcade. I'm sorry but the only things the PS3 could even possibly have on the 360 are the Blu-Ray and maybe better hardware. Microsoft has done very well with the 360.

That still seems a bit much, it got mine with Zelda for £220, but Zelda on it's own has dropped to £30 now.
Wii Play includes a spare controller and costs £35, although IMO it's not worth the extra fiver, and I haven't played it with anyone who wants to play any of the games more than once, in fact they've all expressed sympathy that I had to play them multiple times to unlock them all.
On top of that could be an extra nunchuck, I suppose - they're £15-20, only 2P in the the boxing game needs a second one, although I suppose other titles might need it for two-player.

Even with all that I reckon you'd be £15 short of £280, enough for maybe 2000 Wii points, or a classic controller. Actually I'd recommend grabbing a wireless GameCube controller - the lttle plug fits it you have the console vertical, and it just fits in with the whole wireless controller thing.

I think the PS3 is shit, console games fucking suck.
I think the 360 is shit, console games fucking suck.
I think the Wii is great, intuitive and interesting ideas make it fucking rock.

Personally I dont give a rats ass about the sony machine. Sure it may be all nice and shiny and have one of these masssivly over-priced Blu-ray (HDDVD is cheaper = better) drives. Also its a FUCKING CONSOLE, shit controls = shit gaming experiences and as for the launch titles Oblvion anyone? Sorry I was sure that was last years best game.

Ahhh the 360, had one of those with about 10 or 11 games finished them all in 2 weeks, with most of those poxy gamerscore challenges done. Not a single game wanted me to play it again EVAR, saints row? done, finished, finito etc etc. Dead rising? Fucking good laugh till you have either finished the story or decided that you just cant be arsed killing anymore zombies. Test Drive Unlimited? MMORPGRS, Brilliant singleplayer dodgy as fuck multiplayer. Ever noticed the sad bastards in your local town that just drive around the city center in god awful shit cars? Well you get those online, groups of racers driving round and round a virtual city. Who make it there mission to fuck you over by getting in your way mid race.

I was at a friends house a few weeks ago for a few beers. He's still got his 360, and you know what I fucking hate him for that. Watching him play rainbow six vegas online was the most horrible experience ever. It like every person is coated in glue, the gameplay looks like its in slo-motion compared to CSS. And the controller was terrible too, watching him trying to aim up headshots and just even follow people zoomed in was unbearable, nay it was laughable or pathetic. Terrible controls = terrible gaming.

As for the Wii, thats brilliant. I dont care that the graphics arent ZOMG so realistic i can see pidgeons in trees sleeping from 200yards away. If I wanted that i'd spend £400 every 3 months on my pc. Its all about the gameplay. The contoller sucks you in and makes you a part of the story. Be it running at a massive dragon in zelda and physically drawing your sword as you charge in. Or aiming down the sight and shooting the nazi in the face whilst actually pointing at him on the screen. NINTENDO ROCK for that always have done and always will. Who invented the control stick? NINTENDO. Who pioneered personal motion sensing controllers? NINTENDO. Who was in control of the handheld market since i was born? NINTENDO. They are the only company doing anything new nowadays. Sony shat there perty pink panties when they realise nintendo had the motion sensing controllers, so they just had to rush it into there overpriced, newest dust collecting box.

PS3 has shiny graphics and last years games.
360 has shiny graphics and short, shit boring been there done that games.
Wii has ok but not super shiny graphics and fucking brilliant games, with brilliant controls and brillian storylines.

narf im a hell of a lot happier spending £400+ on my pc every 3 or 4 months be it on RAM, CPU or yet another GFX card. Rather than have an overhyped box collexcting dust next to the TV.

My opinon, save up and buy a fucking pc for gaming.

\Rant over

Tekken 6
Killzone PS3
Metal Gear Solid 4
The Darkness
Grand Theft Auto IV
WipEout PS3

These are a few that spring to mind, and look pretty awesome, but the main reason for me would be the Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter etc.... titles that will inevitably hit the system down the line.

If it's anything like it is around here, most stores will have a few just sitting around collecting dust :)

Hehe, there is more CHAWNCE of me keeping it in actual fact.

Also, does anyone know if the PS3 is region free?

IIRC it's a bit of a mash-up.

1st party (sony) PS3 games: Region free
3rd party (everyone else) PS3 games: Optional (depends on the publisher's mood)
PS2 games: Region locked
Blu-ray movies: Region locked

Ta muchly :likesitall:

It's an interesting concept and worked with the PS3, so here's to hoping that 3rd party developers do follow suit.

Also, there's quite a few games coming out on release date acording to Play.

Oh great, more sequels.

The Darkness looks interesting but that's coming out on the 360 as well. I imagine once the console is out and games start being released I'll have the same temptations as I do to get a 360, but at the moment I really don't want it. Needs more original content.

Oh dear, it appears I was a bit of a spanner with the release dates of the defining driving games for these systems, and Gran Turismo 5 is not scheduled for release until March 30, 2008! Someone fucked up, and I don't mean me.

So, looks like the decision's been made, I have money for PC upgrades separately, already have a Wii and will probably pick up a PSP sometime, this was just a 360 vs PS3 contest.

Of the games I would genuinely be excited about "coming soon", which disregards 360 games already out, to make it "fair" on the PS3, we have:

PS3 exclusives
Gran Turismo 5 (Mar 08 )
Final Fantasy XIII (Play: Sep07, Amazon: July 08 )
Driver 5 (Jul 07)

360 exclusives
Forza 2 (Jun 07)
Halo 3 (Jun 07)
Fable 2 (Nov 07)

Of course there may be great games which aren't sequels, but we don't know what they're called, yet - do we?

Adding further weight to the 360 side is that I've already got (access to) Dead Rising, Saint's Row and Viva Pinata, plus a couple of others, so...

Image Winnar!

Talking about Halo 3, I was reading the 'GameCentral' teletext pages on channel 4 (or ITV digital text, if you like) and it mentioned a poster released by the makers of Halo stating that it will be released in the Autumn, rather then the summer as originally predicted.

And something about a Halo 3 demo coming packaged with some other 'EcksBawx TreeShifty' release.

That's Crackdown, which is released this weekend I believe, looks fun. Although you don't get it with the game, you get the opportunity to download the Halo 3 multiplayer beta when it becomes available. I don't know if that will be right away or later on.
