Huh, I thought it was Simon Pegg who came up with it. Although thinking about it, that's purely because he was the first person I heard come up with it, and I avoid anything to do with Perez Hilton as though it could give me super-cancer.

I can't help but point out that a word felcher wouldn't have helped in this case anyway. Buzzmong cant spell.

Woo!
Time to throw money at the game.

Make sure you watch the 10 minute video, it's really impressive (can't link, so have an RPS link to it).

Also, they're planning an Eve-O style player economy for the multiplayer bit. Holy shitballs, I think it's going to be a sandbox to a large extent.

I did wonder how long it would take for someone to spot that term.

Tried to throw money at screen, didn't work. I think they broke something.

Tried the EU backup site? http://backup-na.robertsspaceindustries.com/

Worked when I used it a couple of days ago.

I see to be the only person mega excited by this game, so I'm going to keep posting random little snippets of info, like this:

The game is based on CryEngine.

This is very good news :)

Well I did grab Freespace 2 off GOG and installed the high def stuff, so I can tick that box now. Of course it has more in common with Descent than Elite and while it is indeed a fine example, I look forward to also seeing how trade and exploration work out in this new title.

What I really want is a Freelancer sequel. Fucking love that game.

I was following that for a while, but as months passed I gave up on it. I think Gazillion, the owners of NetDevil, laid off most of the staff and baled on it. Weird as it was just about the most promising space game at the time and quite far along.

Thank fuck crowd-funding hadn't caught on then (although if it had they might be still going). I'm not super excited about Space Citizen, because I think the single player might turn out to be ultimately hollow and the MMO side might turn out to require Eve levels of commitment. However, I'm glad it's being made.

Internet theory crafting seems to be blowing between Freelancer style coop / private server MP to epicly unbalanced horrible Eve take off attempt. Either way, if you look at the stretch goals, we won't get anything much unless he hits $5mill on the counter.

Yeah, it's now got it's $2,000,000 via their own webby and their KS campaign.
Also, pledge ship details are out. Looks nice with a decent bit of scope for variation with the upgrades.

Hopefully that'll be enough to persuade real investors that there's a viable market here, otherwise we'll end up with some Wing Commander take off without the funky stuff he's promising

Well, fuck me. It's just about to finish (20 mins left as of this post), at a whopping $6.2ish million.

It's gone and covered *all* of the stretch goals and quite frankly what they now should be able to add is going to be stunning.
