Right now, as far as I can tell, you could replace the word comic in your posts with book/TV/movies/newspapers and you'd still be making a very, very weak point with no more basis than that you thought it.

You don't see the commonality of the frames? Speech bubbles? Exposition in square boxes? The common themes that continue to happen in the majority of comic book stories?

I'm not sure what your point is here. Most comics have those things, sure (although not all of them. The last one especially shows how out of date your view of comics are, that's very rarely used any more). Just like all films use pictures and usually sound, and all books use text. *How* they are used, and to what effect varies dramatically. You seem to be just pointing at the mechanical elements and saying "That's similar! Similar is bad!"

See, that again sounds like you are just looking at the Marvel/DC crowd and saying "This is all comics". Like I have already pointed out, there are no more "common themes" in comics than there are in literally any other medium.

Out of interst, are you basing these theories off the many comics you have personally read, or are you, like the mums that think all computer games are about violence and rape, taking what you *think* comics are like and just running with it?

I think you're losing sight of my original point entirely. I didn't say similar is bad at all. I said I'm getting tired of it as it pertains to movies. The number of good ones that get made compared to the number of Marvel/DC cash ins is ridiculously bad. Maybe it isn't any worse that other movies, but that isn't really relevant to my point.

I think you guys are being overly sensitive. Your reply that really irked me was the one that assumed I don't know comic book movie from superhero movie. It is baseless and wrong, and really got me going. Your thought process doesn't seem to account for other people having different tastes about these non-superhero comic book movies and you just assumed that I must like the too or something.

Of course its relevant. If you "are getting tired with comic book movies" but actually they are on average no worse than any other kind of film, why single out comic book movies?

To be fair, I did jump on you for appearing to make a common mistake, and if that is not the case, then fine. Most people don't have a fucking clue that the film they are watching is based on a comic book unless the main character is wearing tights. And why should they? There is nothing integral to comics that horses the stories in them to be the same way, so once you move that story to a different medium the fact that it was once a comic becomes irrelevant. *That* is why I have a problem with your view that comic book films are often bad. You could take the "comic book" part of that sentence away and it would still be exactly as true. The bad films are not bad because they were once a comic, they are bad because they are not good.
