I remember struggling a little with the combat, iirc it's about the timing of the clicks and I've never been great at rhythm games. Am I right in recalling that different enemies needed different stances to beat effectively and that the timing was different for each one?friznit wrote:Loving The Witcher. It's a bit slower and more convoluted than the Dragon's Age story, and all the clichés are thoroughly represented (scottish dwarves, welsh druids, cockney thieves etc etc) but I'm really enjoying the atmosphere - the confused way the story drips into place actually fits with the whole theme, the A-Life is some of the best I've seen and I disagree with what many say about the combat - it's not a single click fest at all and can get surprisingly tactical.
Games I havn't played (yet) and kinda regret it....

I finally got around to trying The Witcher again, not least owing to Pete's constant praise for the game. Ironically it seems it was I who first recommended it to him before myself becoming disillusioned with the combat mechanic.
I shall plop some more specifics in the review thread but it is safe to say that I have missed out on a gem of a game by not playing this before.

Hmm, maybe I'll give it a try later then. I've been looking at it in my Steam list and not had the motivation start it up.FatherJack wrote:I shall plop some more specifics in the review thread but it is safe to say that I have missed out on a gem of a game by not playing this before.
Definitely give it a go and make sure you don't write it off after the first 10 minutes. It's unfortunate that the first 10 minutes of the game are a little linear and almost arcadey because it give a very bad impression of the richness that follows. Give it at least and hour and you'll soon see what's so good about it.

Very this. Combat mechanic is a bitch at first and getting into it is a ball ache but like Friz says persevere for a short while and you'll find yourself hooked. It almost slipped past me until FJ pointed out as mentioned above. I swept it at first but thought enough of it to spring for the deluxe version. Now I'm looking foward for witcher 2 to arrive.

I missed the CoD train, especially back when it was the cat's ass around here.
I also never got into Starcraft. I've never really liked Blizzard RTS games after Warcraft II. I just couldn't get into it, and I just assumed SC was more of the same. Sad thing was, I got into the SC2 beta and the only thing I did was adjust my video settings. I had something to do and said I would come back, but then I always would play something else.
I'm waiting for Red Dead Redemption to drop in price ($60 is a stupidly high price point).
