Good call on Halo. The soundtrack did a lot for the atmosphere of the game and it still stirs the soul.

God damn, this thread is going to take up a lot of my time tonight.

Turrican 2 had amazing music. You could select tracks from the main screen, and I'd just load it up to listen to it while doing other things. My favourite was Powerslide at the time, but it hasn't aged as well.

This might be interesting to fans;

Apparently they did a full set.

Cannon Fodder was also great, and in perfect character with the game. It's the first time I remember a game having proper music, with lyrics and realistic sounding instruments.

Frontier had good music for the time. Most was existing classical music, and docking to Blue Danube was great, but I always sat through the intro for the dramatic music.

What was also great was that both ship types in the intro (Cobra and Imperial Courier I think) were favourites of mine.

But the first game music I still regularly recall came from the coolest arcade of its time. The little sit-down Ferrari coin-ops were awesome in 1986.

It's just an artist search for Frank Klepacki - RA1, 2 and 3, Tiberian sun, & Generals.

I actually set the N64 up last weekend just to have a run around in this game. 12 years old and I still love it.

Is just so chilling and eerie.

That's a link to Stoat's 5punk (Eclectic) list. I discovered I'd already added some of the tracks from Video Games Live album to it. Add moar!

My favourite Sonic music was this one, Good Future, last level - so happy!

Doom E1M1 was only truly at its best, if you owned a Gravis Ultrasound

But it would be wrong to miss off Jereon Tel/Maniacs of Noise

this is one that sets me off

i love the metroid games, first one i played was super metroid and have had some gameboy ones over the years, ive only played one of the 3d ones and it didnt seem like the worst transition from 2d ever.

dont think i ever got a chance to play the first two games

i want to find one to play now actually

oh and starwing and lylat wars where some of my faviroute games as a kid, unfortunately the music in both games was fairly terrible, this is probably the best in the series

Similar to World of Goo, it's not really nostalgia, but for down right beautiful music that fits the game it was made for perfectly then you can't get 2 better examples than Machinarium and Braid.

Machinarium

Braid

Sounds like a Vangelis score, ala Blade Runner.

I thought that was the music for Beneath a Steel Sky (which was awesome and I have been unable to find so far) and I've just discovered that they have remade it for the iPhone! If you've got one, GET IT
