I too liked the Battlemage class in Elder Scrolls games, but if that's not an option my first char will probably be a mage. If nothing else, it's a better test of how well-balanced a game is.

In the Elder Scrolls games I always start off being a sneaky ninja type, who can wear medium armour and still bash things if he needs. However, given the way that game works, I'd usually end up being a sneaky ninja who can wear full plate, throw fireballs with one hand and wield a massive axe in the other, whilst also retaining the ability to unlock anything. Completion for Morrowind/Oblivion for me had nothing to do with the story, and everything to do with becoming head of every faction/guild going.
Currently, I'm unlikely to get Dragon Age, but I am quite likely to reinstall Oblivion and find a load of mods for it.

Have a look at
Pahncrd's Oblivion Enhanced Edition. It's a massive collection of mods which Pahncrd has spent many hours getting to co-operate without (much) crashing.
I'm playing through at the moment. Currently around 150 hours played and I've barely scratched the surface.

Are you using that mod collection then? I found a few which I really liked last time and still have saved somewhere, but I'm willing to give it a go.

Yessir. It's a big ol' download but if you use the newsgroup method he links to it shouldn't take too long.
I've tried in the past to faff around getting a very modded Oblivion to work but my patience always failed me. This all runs from an installer; all you need is fresh copy of Oblivion (and all the official bits and pieces, it won't work without them), run the POEE installer, press a few other buttons and you are good to go.
