I know about the protectors being dubious, but that's one of the good things about UK power, it's very well regulated so that the protectors than only will handle one big spike or two are all that are needed really as most of the time they're doing bugger all.

It was either a cheapish PSU or it was a Tagen 330 or 380w. Rather specific isn't it? I simply can't remember what was in that machine but I know at one point a Tagen that wasn't one of mine let the magical blue smoke escape.

There's your problem, using cheapy rip off PSUs.

Though, I did lose one tagan, after maybe 4 years of always on use, finally died in tukkake.

Oh yeah, that and another incident is why I never buy cheap PSU's anymore.

Saying that, the power surge I mentioned earlier apparently took out 2 other pc's on my brother's street alone so even an expensive one probably would have popped, it just probably wouldn't have taken the rest of the pc with it.

Also, never flick a psu to 110v from 240v unless it's been off at least a week. Makes a rather impressive bang

If the PSU has a voltage switch on the back, it needs to be retired, badly.


Anyway, the last storm here killed the telly and video downstairs, the phones and knackered the adsl felcher, a building up the road and next doors computer developed many and various faults.

Well having checked with OCUK first, I've just refused delivery so it'll go back for a full refund, and I'll get the Viewsonic one next week instead. Unless Sol now says it's broken on him!
