As far as I can tell, there are no graphics cards available at the moment that support DX10 properly, the G80 is meant to, and I've been trying to figure out whether the G80 is the chip that is the same as the GF8800 coming out in a couple of weeks time? If it is, this may be the only available card with DX10 stuff.
But then again, they might be cunts, and only add the DX10 vistaery niceness on a later revision of the G80, like when Fista is available. (Not nice news for you now)

I think there might have been some spikes of late, should that graph be extended.

Well given that there seems to be a clear upgrade option this works out for the best, as if I was forced to do a full upgrade to PCI-E now then I'd have spent a lot more money (MOBO, CPU, GFX and RAM) and still have a DX9 card, whereas now I can spend a bit, stay with AGP and still have a card that will last me a while to let the new tech bed in.

I was thinking about ripping out the guts of my PC to replace my mobo/CPU/RAM/gfx but now I'm thinking about an intermediary and far cheaper option of upgrading to a better AGP card. Possibly a 7900. Do you think it's worth it considering the rest of my current setup?:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2GB PC3200 RAM
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard
MSI NX6800GT-TD256 gfx card
ViewSonic VX912 19" LCD monitor
400GB + 250GB SATA HDs and a 120GB IDE HD
Antec P160 case
DVD-ROM and dual layer DVD writer of some of description
Creative Audigy 2 Value

Mine's pretty similar to that and reckon it's worth a GFX card upgrade.

Some may disagree duw to CPU bottleneck etc. but if you're after a 7900 AGP the prices should come down after nvidia aluanch the G80's in the next few weeks.

I personally am going for an x1950 pro AGP as soon as I can get my hands on one (Not soon enough :( ) as it will be the fastest AGP card available and will keep me from doing a full upgrade for at least a year (I am happy to hold off on DX10 for a few months)

I'm thinking of doing the same thing as well, as I'm not in a rush to use Fista narf, and it's a damn site cheaper than building an entire PC from scratch.

Still, might just wait it out till the new year, as my 6800 can play all the newer games, you just have to fiddle with the settings a bit

WERD to AGP :ahoy:

But seriously I will obtain a fancy new X1950 pro AGP as a necessity so will let you know how it goes, it's supposed to be Fista compliant just not DX10.

AGP will hopefully keep me going for another year... just don't upgrade yet! (watch this space)

Sctratch that, I got impatient and the release date of the x1950 seemed to slip.

Got a BFG 7800gs instead.

I think I'll go the Nvidia route at some point, I know nothing about ATI and would rather stick with Nvidia.

I still want the X1950 pro AGP as it should spank the 7800gs which is the current best AGP card.

Couldn't wait that long though, still this one should be enough of an upgrade from my 6800gt to be worthwhile, although I'm tempted to sell my new one to get the X1950 when it comes out, now that's some bad economics  :?

I'll let you know if I decide to make the blatently poor decision to upgrade twice in as many months :ignore:

Either way I'd be really interested to find out how much of a difference it makes, as I was thinking of asking for one as a Xmas present.

How much did it set you back?

Managed to get it for £120 + £20 shipping, from the US but still cheaper than they are here ~£190
