Yeah, I've got an N73 now and I agree. The 6600 might be available as one of those £50 upgrade jobbers though, so I'll have a look.

You like the Sony Ericssons then? I'll have a look at that one too.

I'm not too concerned about OS and interface issues. I've had a few different types and I've found I pick up what I need to eventually, even if I hate the software at first.

I'm still tempted by the iPhone, but I'm loath to plug it into my PC.

If you're not willing to bend to Apple's will you're probably better off with something else. Without the combination with iTunes you won't get to full benefit. Plus the battery life might annoy you. Otherwise it's a great device for music, txt, email and maybe even phone calls.

Well after some deliberation and trawling of review sites (none of which I trust really), I've gone with* Amblin and the Sony Ericsson W995. The iPhone topped loads of charts, but not the version they're giving away and as Spoodie said I'm probably not going to appreciate it.

*Well, I'm about to when I get the chance inbetween Sprog drama, spouse drama, and combinations of the two

I've not seen that one before, but it does look rather good. Let us know what you think of it once you've had a chance to play with it.

Yeah, still not actually got round to ordering it yet. Last night was one of those nights when I had about half an hour of free time, and when I tried I realised I'd have to go through the account retrieval rigmarol again.

Anery has an HTC and loves it.

Perhaps they have improved over the model I have and talked about on the first page, which is first generation. I would guess battery life is still poor with wi-fi, but then that's the case with anything.

I binned off O2 very recently - a couple of weeks ago - for the same reasons (no fucking phones if you don't want an IPhone). Briefly had an N97, but didn't rate it.

In the end I opted for a(n) HTC Hero. Android phone, which makes me happy, and although it was a bit laggy at first, a firmware update yesterday has made it quick as fuck.

Basically a very lovely phone, very intuitive navigation and very customisable. My only real gripe is the camera not having ANY kind of flash. But then even with one, night photos taken with a mobile are mostly shit in my humble opinion.

I've a pretty good digital camera for anything but opportunity shots. Unfortunately opportunity shots I've missed include A-10s circling above me and an Apache flying down the A1. Still, it's not a high priority for me on a phone.

In the end it turned out that the W995 was a £200 upgrade, so I went with the similar-but-not-quite-so-good W705. At the end of the day though, it's still just a phone. I've a PC/laptop for internet, a Creative Zen for music, and a Konica Minolta for photos.

In the end I went to the touchscreen Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic. My contract means I get 200 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited (mrrhhurr) internet.

The phone itself is pretty good:

It's excellent at multitasking, I can have several applications open at once and the phone doesn't lag whatso ever and generally leaves the application in the state it was when I left it to open something else.

There appears to be quite a few applications for it which is handy cause the media player provided doesn't support many formats (including .avi :|) but there are plenty alterntives out there.

It's also got Wifi, GPRS.

Usability wise, it's taking time getting used to texting via the full screen keyboard about from that though the GUI is excellent and so far it's the best Nokia I've had since the 6210. We'll see if it stands the test of time (and memory).

Well, this is interesting...

I "upgraded" my contract at the carphone warehouse last week, from £15 to £20 a month, giving me the Nokia 5800 for free and the 200 minutes, unlimited texts/internet. For 18 months.

Carphone Warehouse said the new contract will begin on my contract rollover date (24th of each month). Fair enough.

So, check my account details this morning on the net - still my old contract details.

Ring up 3, first they tell me that there are no details of the upgrade, then they say they've received the order but was rejected as the person put my DOB as 1981 rather then 1987. 3 then offer me a similar deal but for 24 months, I said I wanted it for the original 18, they say they don’t do that offer. Looking on the net that appears to be the case.

Currently, my contract is still set to expire the end of next month and technically, I’ve acquired a free phone from the carphone warehouse.

So, what should I do? Should I go back C.W. and get them to sort it out, bearing in mind that the contract they tried giving me possibly doesn’t exist. Will they ask for the phone back? I don’t really want to be tied down for 24 months.

i wouldnt bother with carphone warehouse, my friend tried to get a phone with them before, they just went in the shop to see what they had, they took down a few of her details and signed her up to a deal she didnt have any idea was happening and then hassled her for a few weeks before finally dropping it

Well it's been well over a week and they haven't even contacted me, even though they've technically lost an expensive mobile.

I'd resist flogging it on fleabay, just in case.

My phone's quite nice. It makes phone calls, holds my entire 80s playlist, and a few, erm, movies. I set the animated gif wallpaper as the wiggly arses from the Destination Calabria video, but Mrs Pants didn't like that.

She hasn't seen the spunking CDC Ace Ventura startup gif yet.

HALP!

I'm tempted by an iPhone. Anyone got any alternatives that are better?
