Uncanny Valley indeed. Soulless fucks in my mind, too bothered about their synth image than actually making decent music.

Yarp. I honestly wouldn't have got it without google fu so I figured I'd check it out.
Here's one - songs about masturbating, there's more than you think!

Here's one - song about buying a pair of feather wings in a shop and flying around with them. To ease the flying about chap pays some gremlins to mess about with the airline routes. He pays them off with some of the feathers from his wings but this causes him to be sent back in time to the 19th century. Whilst there he is in a firefight with some Fenians, he kills one of them but he in turn gets hit and is sent forwards in time. He ends up back in the present but his alteration of the past has affected the future - the place where he bought the wings has ceased to exist, they no longer work, and he becomes homeless and mad whilst wandering the streets still wearing his feathers.
To be fair, that could describe quite a few songs in the chart right now.

Cloos?
Mötley Crüe, specifically how they would say 'Dude!' a lot, and look quite effeminate.
Horror movies. The video was made as one.
Elvis and Prescilla Presley. This is a tough one, but the song is about Elvis being Prescilla's confidant and friend.
Stalking, obsession, control. The singer/writer described it being an ugly song.
Woking. A town called.
Dislike of performing on stage, specifically the extremely bright lamps used. The band preferred studio work.

Horror Movies - "Thriller" by MJ.
That should have been obvious, but I was looking at them all being electro-pop hits.
Woking - "A Town Called Malice" by The Jam. Pop trivia I knew but didn't recall it or make the connection. Arrgh. I think.
Dislike of Stage and Lights - "Super Trouper" by Abba?
Motely Crew reference is "Dude Looks Like A Lady" by Aerosmith.

Love the creativity, but neither are what I was shooting for. This guy was from Newcastle.

Well at least you're not alone. Seems like most people misinterpreted that one (assuming it's the one about stalking). I rather like that he wrote a songe that he thought was ugly and repulsive. Gives him a human character. I've seen the guy live, and he's very convincing.

Well, the music is lovey-doveyish. Even the video was cool with the color shades of the album cover (hint, hint). Not quite evil sounding like the 2 I stated up above.
He was on such a roll back then. Every solo, band, duet he did was golden.

Ah, Gordon.
Police - Every breath you take.
My take on it was watching and waiting for an enemy/perp to trip up, but secretly admiring/loving them perhaps owing to the way one might feel close to someone you're observing so intimately, but obessing so much you'd almost wish them dead. The band name kind of put this in my head most likely - felt more like a stakeout than a stalkout.
As for people thinking it's romantic, I guess when permission's granted it's nice to have someone watch over your every breath, and still be "watching over you" despite your mistakes, but the "since you've been gone" line rather breaks this.

Interesting take, I can see how you got there. Not sure anyone else got there that way... apart from maybe Mr Sumner.
Correct though.
