If you just wanted to go balls out money getting, then couple two of the gathering skills: mining, harbalism and skinning. Gather like a loon and dump on the AH.
In other news; reading through the DK notes makes me suspect they broke my wierd DK spec. Ah well, time to respec!
I think they're breaking DKs full stop. I seem to remember Blizzard admitting that they're overpowered and that an elite class shouldn't mean that they're better at 80, so they're getting out the nerfbat.

It's what I usually do, works really well for getting money.
Some things that people seem happy to spend a few gold on are tangy clam meat and flasks of mojo. Most people vend crap like that for a few silver but I've made quite a few gold. Not much by the time you hit 80 but it's not bad for stuff you pick up without trying.
Farming mining in vanilla wow is tedious but the money in it is insane. Without flying mounts very few people do it and are willing to pay silly money. Made about 400g levelling mining on my alt just from selling the bars I made! Also to bear in mind in 3.2, engineering has become a lot more desirable so expect lots of people speed-levelling that.
Seems like Engineering is becoming a craft of convenience. Vehicles, auctioneers, mobile repair, etc. It's nice that there's now a reason to be one, because most things engis make are shit, but it would be nice to have convenience for all. Mind you, there's never been an AH in Dalaran or Shattrath to make high level characters go back to the cities so I suppose they ought to limit it somehow.
Kill and salvage the Library Guardians in northern Storm Peaks, apparently the drop rate for those is anywhere between 1 in 50 and 1 in 400. Plus you'll get trash to sell
